"Watch for Republicans trying to claim this protest as support for them. I just learned that my county’s tea party is “sponsored” by the county GOP. I sent an email to the state coordinators voicing my diapproval."

This is a good point you bring up. Obviously part of the reason the Tea Parties came into existence was that their was a failure of BOTH major political parties to reign in the out-of-control spending, federal bailouts, etc...

However, the one point I've tried to make to people is that when you see Republican leaders embracing the Tea Parties, celebrate the fact, don't denounce it.

It's important to get the Republican Party back to standing for lower taxes, less spending and a smaller federal government. There's ALOT of work to be done on this front, I concede, but it's always good to have people moving TOWARDS you than away from you.

We need to have ALL the "conservative" oriented political parties embracing the less spending, lower tax, smaller government mantra (Republican, Libertarian and Constitution/AIP).

When they embrace it by their actions in congress, I'll celebrate. Until then they are playing the same old political game.

I certatinly agree with you there.

My concern was them attempting to co-opt the tea party events, and of course the leftist media is constantly spouting the propaganda that this was started by the GOP and Fox News.

An interesting tidbit from Michelle Malkin about the Sacramento Tea Party yesterday:

California Tea Party to California GOP: Smackdown

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 15, 2009 05:18 PM

Something hugely significant just happened here at the Sacramento Tea Party. Organizer Mark Meckler singled out GOP opportunists who wouldn’t give him the time of day weeks ago — and then wanted to hitch their wagons to the Tea Party bandwagon at the last minute.

Meckler said he heard that California GOP chair Ron Nehring was in the audience. Meckler invited him to say hi to the crowd — and then ripped him for waffling on the massive tax hike ballot measures (particularly Prop1A - $16 billion tax hikes).

Massive boos from the crowd of thousands here against the Calif. GOP establishment.

Will this make the MSM coverage? It doesn’t fit the narrative. But it’s yet another demonstration that this movement is not partisan and equal opportunity when it comes to holding politicians’ feet to the fire for fiscal irresponsibility and fecklessness.

The Sacto teaparty was a resounding sucess, thanks to you and the Our Country PAC for being a big part of that!
