Pittsburgh Suspect said a 'good kid' who wanted guns

PITTSBURGH, April 4 (UPI) -- Friends said Richard Poplawski, 22, suspected of gunning down three Pittsburgh police officers Saturday, feared President Barack Obama would take his guns.

They also described him as a young man with an interest in politics who liked to party. Edward Perkovic, who said he first met Poplawski in daycare, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette his friend was a "good kid."

Aaron Vires, 23, said he sometimes worked with Poplawski and Perkovic on a radio show they broadcast on the Internet that focused on "politics, girls and life." Vires, who is black, said he and Poplawski had "spirited debates" about Obama but said his friend is not a racist.

Poplawski grew up in Pittsburgh with his mother and grandmother. Friends said his father "was not in the picture."

He was expelled from North Catholic High School and received a dishonorable discharge from the Marines, something friends said he engineered because he wanted to return to his girlfriend. He moved to Florida for a while, working as a glazier there.

But Poplawski appears to have some radical right views, the newspaper said. Perkovic said he had talked about "Zionist propaganda."

“Good kids” don’t get dishonorable discharges from the Marines. Even for their girlfriends.

Like all those “sweet” and “loving” pit bulls who just happen to enjoy mashing in the faces of babies rather than rawhide chew toys.

Mot a good kid, but rather a mass-murdering terrorist.

It’s the guns that did it. He would still be here, a nice boy and all, if only it weren’t for those darned guns! we should outlaw them asap.

If he in fact received a “dishonorable discharge” then I believe federal law prohibits him from owning a firearm. It’s one of the questions you answer when completing the ATF form 4473 to purchase a firearm from a gun dealer.

There are various grades of less than honorable discharges, such as general, other than honorable, etc., so I wonder if the media has it exactly correct when saying he had a “dishonorable discharge.”

Jack
Just to add to what you said. We need to enforce the laws we got, not make more!

I can’t think of a law that will ever thwart someone whose gone off the deep end.

You’re right Jack. A dishonorable discharge is still pretty serious and the military treats them that way. If the media is right and he actually received a dishonorable discharge, he had to have done something pretty serious to get it.

“Zionist propaganda” sounds like radical left views to me, not radical right.

Just one of those evil, gun loving conservatives, er that is, “right wingers.” The MSM will have a field day with this one, putting words in the mouths of everyone attached to this whack-job. Just a “good kid” who was expelled from school, got a DD from the Marines and killed three cops. Obviously that damned 2nd amendment made him do it!!

There is a certain small element of the far right that likes to rant and rave about “Zionists” - they’re just not welcome on this forum.

I'm afraid the picture that is being painted before our very eyes with this shooting is this. All gun owners, whether they are members of the NRA, SASS, NMLRA, Free Republic or even an evangelical church are capable of losing our senses and taking out anyone with our guns.

The solution is to take our guns away. We can't be trusted.

Just wait and see. They will use any angle possible even if it is based on one rare and extreme incident.
