White House confident in Treasury's oversight

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House stood by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Tuesday amid widespread outrage over millions of dollars in bonuses insurance giant AIG gave to executives after receiving federal bailout money.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama had confidence in Geithner and the Treasury Department's oversight. But Gibbs underscored that Obama is working as quickly as possible with Congress to find ways to block the bonuses at the American International Group Inc. (AIG) or at least to recoup the money.

The spokesman said the administration also is considering following the lead of the New York attorney general, Andrew Cuomo, who has subpoenaed the names of those receiving the bonuses.

"I think the specific proposal about making public those names is something that the administration is looking at," Gibbs said.

Republicans said Obama and his administration should have leaned harder on AIG executives to reject the bonuses of $165 million for top executives. AIG has received tens of billions of dollars in bailout money.

Geithner needs to resign or be fired.

The fact he let 30 billion more out the door to AiG, knowing full well about the bonuses is criminal. If he isn’t a criminal he is incompetent and has to resign for that.

“White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama had confidence in Geithner and the Treasury Department’s oversight.”

Based on the tax cheat’s job performance thus far?

What a goofy clown act.

Ok so the people who have no experience and not a clue as to what they are doing are confident the other people who have no experience and less than a clue have a plan.

Why don’t I feel better about this?

Among the last things you hear before you resign "to pursue other interests..."

Timmy the Tax Cheat is probably selling his “game cheats” out the back door of the treasury to anyone who wants to play the bailout game.

0bama can’t fire Geithner. It would be an admission of abject failure on his part. It would leave the Treasury headless, a political no-can-do at this juncture (although to me that would be an improvement).

I’m sure that 0bama curses Geithner relentlessly for being clueless to the political ramifications of his performance. I smile when I think of that.

It’s is absolutely amazing the BS that comes out of D.C.

Everyone in D.C. said what a “smart guy” this Geithner was/is and now we see he is a 24KT BUFFOON!

Did this clown even read the deal he put together with AIG?

Where do they find these clowns?

Geithner needs to GO! And I mean TODAY!
