I would think that the press would realize that these attacks against private citizens are also an attack on the First Amendment.

Oh that’s right, their leftists, they only believe in freedom for themselves and not the rest of us. How could I have forgotten?

I also see it as an impromptu signal to the minions to press on and step up the attacks on those who may dare to be in opposition.

While they could be described as an attack on 1st amendment they are not unusual, even in more recent history. My dad related to me the many attacks by Harry Truman on commentators like H.V Kaltenborn. They ranged from anger to sarcastic mimicry. Of course Kaltenborn never responded directly to these attacks, but simply carried on with his criticisms. That would be a course folks like Santelli, Rush, and Cramer should emulate.
