Tax troubles for president's chief of staff

Emanuel's rent-free Washington residence draws questioning

There could be tax troubles on the horizon for White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who reportedly has lived rent-free in Washington for five years but hasn't paid taxes on the imputed income from that, according to reports.

He's the latest in a growing list of President Obama's nominees to have been involved in tax issues, according to those tabulating the tally in Washington.

According to WND columnist Phyllis Schlafly, several of "Obama's major nominees are mired in political embarrassment. Three withdrew their names from consideration, one sneaked through confirmation because senators were still intoxicated with the Obama honeymoon, and Obama plans to use a waiver so the Senate will approve the fifth."

"Funny thing," she continued, "Americans don't seem to like it when government officials evade the taxes the rest of us pay, especially when they evade more taxes than most Americans' entire tax bill. Apparently, that doesn't seem to bother Obama."

Imputed income is total bull. I take no salary or wages so I dont have to pay taxes, but they want to charge me anyways for using company benefits even though I work constantly.

Fair Tax, no more income tax and we wont have these problems. We could have a private barter system and they would want to tax that also. That is treasonous in my opinion to try to tax someone , just because they figure out a legal way to get around paying income taxes.

Hopefully we’ll be surprised when the MSM takes up this issue. Yeah, I know, but I’m still an optimist.

Doesn’t matter!

He is:

1) a Democrat politician
2) a non-white

He can do ANYTHING he wants to do.

I agree with you. In the case of Emmanuel it has ties to politics and contracts. In the case of guys like you there should be no tax for using your car or other business items for personal use.

The investigation of Rham’s paying taxes ought to go back to Chicago and re-examine Rahm’s designation of his house there as the HQ for a tax exempt organzation. Which consists only of him and his wife. Who draws a “salary” to manage that tax exempt organization.

Nice work if you can get it.

And also reexamine his payments for his kids schoo tuition as contributions to a religious organization.

Well taxes are bull passed into law but the law says if you are paid in kind, limo, apartment, etc you gotta pay. If Rahm was temporary in DC and had a home in Chicago I can see where he should be able to expense quarters while away and working but 5 years? I wonder if the white house quarters are taxable and at what rate? There are rules for the rich and then there are rules for us I reckon.

Silverleaf has a point. I know this isn’t Chicago right now; but a reference link on the Chicago Crimes thread may be useful as more unfolds.

Not to mention that he “earned” EIGHTEEN MILLION $$$ in TWO AND A HALF YEARS after leaving the Clinton White House. He “worked” for a fat cat Dem donor/investment banker.

Rahm’s cashing-in makes Daschle look like a chump.

IN BANKING, EMANUEL MADE MONEY AND CONNECTIONS (NY Times)

Maybe we should all join the Democratic Party, opt out of that “taxie-thing”, and then vote as we see fit.

“Imputed income is total bull.”

Exactly right and it’s gonna get worse. Some Rats want to tax you if your house is paid off. It’s coming...
