“It’s not the people who vote that count. It’s the people who count the votes.” (Josef Stalin)

“And the people who count the voters”-Obama (census 2010)

Can’s say as I’m surprised, but I am still disappointed. The recent rallies and the attempted ‘visit’ of Walesa gave me some hope.

What would happen if Obama tried this?

The MSM would talk about talk about how FDR had three terms and that this was perfectly OK prior to Roosevelt. They may even argue that "Dire" economic situation requires suspension of elections.

"Change, Venezuelans can believe in."

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

"The way they are going here it may be coming to the USA too."

The bill has already been introduced in the House. Again. The difference is that this time around it might pass.

Wow. You are wrong on all points.
You are thinking weak countries need strong leaders to become stronger. Wrong. Strong political leaders make weak countries. These countries are weak because they are corrupt, they are corrupt because the leaders have too much power. If you want a strong country, give that country the kind of weak central govt the USA had, and it will THRIVE.

It is even more important for term limits for Presidents, to stop precisely the abuse the Chavez is engaging in, destroying democracy through power on incumbency, and limited govt for these countries than for advanced nations.

US system is superior because it divides legislative and executive powers. The more divisions of power, the better for the people, while at the same time a singular executive ensures unity in executive action where needed.

USA had many unforgettable presidents when it was a developing nation. They served us well.

Independent polls have shown Chavez having the support of over half the Venezuelan population. Even if he’s ‘made sure’ that he will win, he probably would have won in a fair vote as well.

The same goes for the Presidential election in the United States. I was surprised to see how many FReepers believe that voter fraud won Obama the election. There was probably fraud, but Obama would have most likely won even without it.

The Venezuelan and American people were by and large unwise in their vote, with or without vote rigging.

You’re right. Electoral democracy has always been one of the easiest paths for communists to achieve power.

I’m sure this was a completely lawful election, too! No way Chavez would use intimidation tactics, stuff the ballot boxes, etc... /s

Oh, they've already got a bill in Congress this session to seek a Consitutional Amendment to End Presidential Term Limits -- the liberals are not stupid... They know that with the new money for ACORN, with Obama's continuous "campaigning", etc... that the ONLY thing stopping them at this point are those pesky term limitations...

From Thomas.loc.gov: H.J. Res. 5

111th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. J. RES. 5

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

January 6, 2009

Mr. SERRANO introduced the following joint resolution; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

JOINT RESOLUTION

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled (two-thirds of each House concurring therein), That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission for ratification:

`Article--

`The twenty-second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.'.

They are already proposing removal of Presidential term limits - See the Resolution filed in the House on 1/6/2009 that I linked to in post #93...

They wasted no time at all trying to get a Constitutional Amendment on the table - it takes 7 years... Just in time for Obama's THIRD election for the Presidency if they get their way...

I agree. The happenings are ominous, like some alignment of seeming separate events pointing towards an even bigger event.

I’m not superstitious nor am I particularly religious but I am more than a little uncomfortable about the similarities between Biblical writings and other foretellings and what I see happening and advancing on an almost daily basis.

The big difference is that Hitler never won an election in his life. Heck, I don't think he ever even ran for political office, if my memory serves me well. It was Gernam President Von Hindenberg who appointed Hitler as Chancellor of Germany, after the old man was subjugated to an all-night harrange by his pro-Nazi nephew. (or son, can't recall for certain.)

Hitler ran for President of Germany in 1932, losing to von Hindenburg.
