Tennessee: Memphis News Site Publishes Tennessee Concealed Carry Permit Holder List
NRA-ILA ^ | Feb. 12, 2009

Posted on 02/13/2009 6:13:21 AM PST by JenB987

A Memphis based online news website, CommercialAppeal.com, has posted Tennessee’s right to carry permit holder list online! CommercialAppeal.com apparently feels that the “public’s right to know” outweighs your right to privacy. Their irresponsible decision to publish this list has made it easier for criminals to target law-abiding gun owners.

Shockingly when the list was first published, it even included permit holders home address! However, bowing to criticism, CommercialAppeal.com removed the address but still included a permit holder’s full name, birth date, city, zip code, and the issue and expiration date of their permit.

Is this list only naming the permits of concealed to carry, like say...in the car? To have a gun in your home, I did’nt think you needed a permit. If so.....oh what a surprise to a crook, to visit a home not on the list, but with a gun in the home.

A sign in the window of a home....

TO HELL WITH THE DOG...BEWARE OF OWNER

“For some strange reason a lot of MSM types think the criminals are anxious to go rob homes where someone has a concealed-carry permit. Even some pro-gun people think this way ~ their argument is that “gee whiz, now the criminals know there’s a gun in there so time to steal it”.”

Exactly, they aren’t thinking.

If I was a criminal, I would get a printed copy of this list, and I would makes sure the home I was about to break into WASN’T on the list.

The LAST thing a burglar wants is to be confronted with a gun. Every liberal in the state can thank the paper for making their life just a little bit MORE DANGEROUS.

Five bedrooms, four bathrooms, 5,000sqft and it’s made of “brick veneer” and stick for an appraisal of almost $1,000,000.00?

That’s not a house. It’s a tornado target

Built in 2005. So he bought at the top of the market too.

I looked into the list and found we are in fact there. As is my neighbor. As are several other people I know. I was actually quite pleased to see some friends names there I never would have considered.

>> I don’t really care who knows I have a CCW permit <<

OK, but you really shouldn't want your birth date published on the Internet for all the world to see, because it would be an open invitation for identity theft.

Only the stupidest of criminals would try to break in 75 ft from a parked cruiser.

Hell, now criminals, either smart or stupid, are breaking into those parked cruisers because they know, in an age of the militarization of even the most podunk police department, there is probably a AR15/M16, shotgun, or some other desirable piece of weaponry or other equipment in that trunk.

That cruiser parked near you MAY be a magnet for crime, rather than a deterrent.

Why is this (the list) news? Why don’t they publish a list of people who are on welfare? That would be more newsworthy since our tax dollars are being spent on it.

How about a list of people who tested positive for AIDS. That would have a public health benefit.

Several posters have wondered why concealed-carry licensees would object to their names being published. It’s true that burglars avoid armed homeowners when the homeowners are at home; however, the fear is that burglars will case a license holder’s house and strike when he/she is NOT home, on the probability that there are more guns in the house.
