Democratic Senator Predicts None of His Colleagues 'Will Have the Chance' to Read Final Stimulus Bill Before Vote Friday, February 13, 2009 By Ryan Byrnes and Edwin Mora

(CNSNews.com) – Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) predicted on Thursday that none of his Senate colleagues would "have the chance" to read the entire final version of the $790-billion stimulus bill before the bill comes up for a final vote in Congress.

“No, I don’t think anyone will have the chance to [read the entire bill],” Lautenberg told CNSNews.com.

The final bill, crafted by a House-Senate conference committee, was posted on the Website of the House Appropriations Committe late Thurday in two PDF files.

The first PDF was 424 pages long and the second PDF was 575 pages long, making the total bill 999 pages long. The House is expected to vote on this 999-page bill Friday, and the Senate either later Friday or Saturday. [Editor's note: The first PDF, as posted on the House Appropriations Committee website as of 8:20 AM Friday morning, had grown by 72 pages to 496 pages, increasing the length of the total document to 1,071 pages.]

Frank Lautenburg is saying that he will vote to pass a bill that he admittedly hasnt read??

From what I understand about the Congress and Senate, that is pretty much standard practice.

If you are a homebuilder and you DO NOT read the entire construction plan but build a home anyhow and it falls down on the occupants. what do you think will happen to you?
If you are a school teacher and you read only half of the school year teaching plan and then teach the entire school year and all your students fail the end of year test, what do you think will happen to you?
I could do this scenario for most any occupation. BUT if applied to career political hacks? You vote for a bill and have not read it all and it harms the nations economy and people, what do you think will happen to you? Answer- Nothing...
This is why the people in Government no longer represent us.

Who gets the subsidy?

You know the answer to that.

Who got them before?

Now, add the filthy rich who got taken on the multiple Ponzi schemes and you have the sum total.

Agree, there is no excuse.
I just downloaded the entire bill and saved on my desktop. It is a searchable pdf document.

They have plenty of staff that can quickly look through this.
Ignorance is no virtue.

Sooooo we’ll have the promised 5-day review on Barry’s magical website before he signs it so we all can see it, right? What’s the POINT? Too late by then, and Barry won’t veto his own pile of dung.

"although that won't stop him from lecturing us that it needs to be passed immediately."

Egads man, get with the program. If the bill doesn't pass it will be a catastrophe, a veritable catastrophe I say. We need 30 million dollars to study Nancy Pelosi's mice! We need billions for more Government buildings, and hundreds of millions to remodel other Government buildings. And for GOD'S sake man, we need billions for the nuts at ACORN. Please help. We are facing a catastrophe!

Every Republican should publicly say that they want to vote for the bill but they want to see it first. Call her bluff!

The rule for House vote on the conference report is a hoot. H.Res.168 ...

  1. Waives all points of order against consideration of the conference report except those arising under clause 9 of rule XXI.
  2. Provides that the conference report shall be considered as read.
  3. Waives all points of order against the conference report. This waiver does not affect the point of order available under clause 9 of rule XXI (regarding earmark disclosure).
  4. Provides 90 minutes of debate on the conference report.
  5. Provides one motion to recommit if applicable.

Same tactics that were used with the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill last year.

If a bill cannot survive in the daylight, it’s a BAD bill.

These people absolutely disgust me.

Why can Voinovich manage to read it but not the others? I interpreted his words to be that he himself will read the entire bill. Now, why can't a senator or representative do this or divide the bill up into sections, allot each section to a staff member who will meticulously pore over it then report what they've just read?

Regardless, I agree with Zach Wamp. If one doesn't know what is in the entire bill then one votes 'no' to its passage.

“No, I don’t think anyone will have the chance to [read the entire bill],” Lautenberg told CNSNews.com.

Oh the millions of "I didn't know THAT was in there or I would have..." master excuse is being set up. The speed to get this done is not only because "we don't have a moment to spare" but so that symbolically the socialist pipe dream can be signed on President's day.

Dems would never consider ramming such a bill through that will clearly not stimulate but subjugate if it were not for the cover primarily of the LMSM followed by academia and music and film. What they underestimate is the weakening of their old (and new) LMSM particularly when all that is in this bill that was snuck in is revealed and as each state's government creates millions of political dramas as the graft, misappropriations, and bribes come to the fore during the feeding orgy. Oh yeah...and because we are PISSED OFF!

America has been sold to the Devil.

I saw this quote on another site from
Brigadier General Joshua Chamberlain.

“We know not of the future, and cannot plan for it much. But we can hold our spirits and our bodies so pure and high, we may cherish such thoughts and such ideals, and dream such dreams of lofty purpose, that we can determine and know what manner of men we will be whenever and wherever the hour strikes, that calls to noble action.” - 1889

I will just have to live my life the best that I can under tyranny.
