With President Obama ordering the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility within the year, House Republicans today introduced legislation to prohibit federal courts from ordering the release or transfer of detainees from the facility onto U.S. soil.

“Closing Guantanamo Bay presents a clear and present danger to all Americans," said House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Lamar Smith. "These suspected terrorists must now be relocated and if they are transferred to military prisons in the U.S., they automatically will be granted rights far beyond those given to enemy combatants by any other country."

It probably won’t get through, but I must say I’m impressed.

I hope the “I won” thing pissed them off enough to just say “Screw the aisle”. Of course we know it won’t for McCain or McConnell, but maybe the rest will.

“This is an effort that will die in the Democrat controlled congress. It will never get through the Senate.”

I can remember a time when it would never get through a Republican controlled House or Senate.

How bizarre that I have to rely on a Democrat controlled congress on issues of national security and wartime defense.

"Republicans could have written this legislation in 2001 when the Gitmo prison was established."

And when they were actually in the majority.

Republicans actually standing for something?

Of course not! Just grandstanding on something that they know will never pass the House, let alone the Senate and will be vetoed even if it were.

They know it'll never pass so the political cowards can make all the brave noises they want. Like the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz

LOLOL! Man are a LOT of you guys gullible! No matter how many times the GOPers snooker ya, you're always there thinking warm and fuzzy thoughts about them the next time instead of thinking with a skeptical mind like you should be.

Republicans could have written this legislation in 2001 when the Gitmo prison was established.

This is one of those could have, would have, should have things.

I am sure that NO ONE with two brain cells thought that bringing the terrorists to us could ever happen. May God help us all.

“So if they are banned from U.S. soil, they could be sent to Massachusetts or Illinois.”

Since the Swimmer water-boarded Mary Jo it’s only fitting a few be sent his way.

Does Scottish law prevail?

I thought that pig Pelosi wasn’t going to let Republicans bring anything to the House floor?

Alcatraz is empty, right? I’m sure the tolerant San Frannies would simply LOVE a nest of Islamofascists in their midst.

You're absolutely right. Regardless of what the GOP does, it's not being done for *my* benefit, but for the benefit of the "GOP machine". All incumbents just need to go.

Republicans only do well when they are in the rear since Reagan. They are big spending socialists until they are better off opposiing the democrats.

And I’m a huge RNC supporter. Sadly they just don’t give a damn until they’re way behind.

Obama and the Dems will have their own Willy Hortons if they let these guys loose, wherever they let them loose.

After 6 years in power, the’ll work hard now to oppsose big gov.. They may just win a lot like 1994.

Right now people think of the GOP has big spending and war mongering. Nothing has been done from the top to encourage consevative values, so I dunno. What can anyone really say now?
