MELANIE PHILLIPS:
Sorry to be a party pooper, but I can't share this swooning Obama hysteria Has everyone lost their marbles?
The inauguration of President Obama is being treated like the Second Coming.
The coverage is so gushing we might all drown.
Of course its a great thing that America, with its history of slavery and segregation still a shockingly recent memory, now has a black President; the palpable joy of African-Americans is entirely understandable and deeply touching. And theres no doubt that Obama is a highly charismatic and attractive personality.
But whats more than a wee bit troubling is that the swooning hysteria reflects the fact that people appear to believe that as of today the world will be saved. Swords will be beaten into ploughshares, peace will be brought to the Middle East, Iran will be pacified, every American will have health insurance, poverty will be eliminated and utopia will have arrived.

That was totally predictable. I'm sorry you had suffer through it. I have a ban on all TV this week. That and allot of home brew has eased the pain.
**Theres gonna be the biggest backlash in public opinion against the press slobbering, in history.**
It can’t happen soon enough for me.
I caught a few seconds of Obama walking outside the limo, after seeing Mrs. Obama walk I was reminded of the WNBA.
“This is how the Republic ends: with thunderous applause...”
~ George Lucas
The serial threads bashing all Republicans including Conservatives and no comments re 0bama.
Our Republic will be reduced to a Communists Nation. Sad, but look at the way this turd talks. King Obama!!
Communist thugs...
I for one am not fooled.
I didn’t realize today was going to bother me so much.
What scares me the most is the look in Mrs. Obama’s eyes. Tell me she isn’t looking forward to 2016.
We can only pray that in today's world, the Presidency is a figure head, more of an acting job than an actual executive position. Surely there are qualified people behind the scenes that actually would make the decisions in a crisis.
If that's not the case and this unqualified community organizer with absolutely no experience as a leader is really in charge, we are in big freaking trouble if s serious crisis confronts us.
That said, it's worse than just having an incompetent egomaniac sitting in the oval office. Now it seems that the people behind the curtains have changed and they are in position now to steer America in another direction - socialism and no doubt down the road , world governance.
But today the America of our forefathers was dealt it's final blow. It's been a long and steady chipping away at the post WW2 America and granted some things had to change, things like segregation, equal pay and rights for women, etc.
But the foundations of our forefather's America; moral standards, the emphasis on individualism, independence, accountability above the collective will, the belief in the free enterprise economic system, these are the values that have eroded over time. Sadly, these are the things that should not have changed.
But America is getting what it deserves. America grew fat, apathetic and self-focused.
A hundred years from now, historians will be writing about the demise of America in the 21st century and people all over the global world will wonder, how did it happen, how did the most powerful country in the world fall into decline and eventually become just another country in the global village. They wil probably be as brainwashed as we are today, seeing it as a good thing that such a greedy and self-absorbed super power was brought to it's knees. That's the way the globalist will frame the decline of America.
They will be living in a very different world village, they will have no comprehension of the freedom this country once provided it's people, no sense of how an ordinary person could build themselves a fortune. Power, wealth, privilege will be restricted, reserved for the elite.
They will have no idea of how great America was, the greatest social system ever designed. It will be a chapter or two in the censored history of the world.
And today we all carry a little of the blame and the shame for letting it all die.
Tell this twit we had something called the “civil war”
Great post. Sad but true. I feel sad for my daughters. They know how great we once were. I don’t know if they’ll experience that greatness as they go out into the world. The creeping cancer of socialism is spreading so rapidly. Can we still defeat it? I hope so. Do we have what it takes to do so? I’m not sure there are enough of us anymore.
Good article.
I’ll be waiting for my rainbow and unicorn.
Agreed. The UK gradually stopped slavery, in fits and starts in their legislature over decades.
In typical American fashion we threw a huge war to “stop slavery”.
Then backtracked our way through reconstruction.
However, I suspect the hysteria we are seeing today goes far beyond race relations or even history overall.
It looks to me like sociological projection and modern media driven celebrity worship; a disturbing development in US political life.
I wouldn’t mind watching if the press and MSM types weren’t acting like love sick teenagers with their first crush. It’s sickening. I actually listened to Obama’s speech on the radio...I turned off the TV earlier in the weekend when it became evident that everybody (including Fox) had slipped into “fawning” mode instead of reporting the news.
If today’s drinking word was “historic”, millions would be dying from acute alcohol poisoning.
There are millions with more charisma than the one.
He is a average speaker. He does not impress me.
