Bored Caroline Kennedy wants a Senate seat to play with
Boston Herald ^ | 12/21/08 | Howie Carr

If her name were Caroline Schlossberg, her candidacy would be a joke.

History is repeating itself - and this time it’s even more farcical than in 1962, when Eddie McCormack, the state attorney general, uttered his famous put-down of then-29-year-old playboy Ted Kennedy:

“If your name were Edward Moore, your candidacy would be a joke.”

The difference between Massachusetts 1962 and New York 2008 is that Teddy had to run for the office. Forty-six years later, his niece Caroline expects - no, demands - to have a Senate seat handed to her, on a silver platter.

Elections? Kennedys don’t need no stinkin’ elections.

Apparently the U.S. doesn’t have a Senate anymore. We have a House of Lords. Instead of seats, we have peerages.

By now everyone has noticed that all the media hags who were so bent out of shape about Sarah Palin’s alleged lack of experience are touting Caroline’s deep hands-on credentials as . . . honorary chairman of the American Ballet Theater.

Not chairman, mind you. Honorary chairman.

Imagine a petulant, spoiled, rich 8-year-old dropped off with her dissipated relatives for the weekend. Imagine her plaintive cry:

“Uncle Teddy! I’m bored!”

At least out in Illinois, Jesse Jackson Jr. was pressured to pony up $1.5 million for his appointment to a Senate seat. Caroline wanted it the way her family always gets things: on the arm. If this is how they run things in Albany now, give me the Chicago way any day.

I’m sure she’ll be a reliable vote for higher taxes. Kennedys always are, except for when it comes to paying their own, especially estate taxes. Do as they say, not as they do. As Leona Helmsley used to say: Taxes are for little people.

Apparently, so is voting. Caroline’s got better things to do than stand in line at some sweaty precinct with the hoi polloi, enduring the foul breath of the plebeians.

She gets the seat, of course. Her main opponent is the state attorney general, scion of a lesser political dynasty. Andrew Cuomo happens to be the ex-husband of Caroline’s cousin, Kerry Kennedy. In a nice twist, Kerry has been making the case for her cousin on TV: “She’s a mother and a woman!” And you thought Caroline had no qualifications.

“We live in a country where one out of every five girls is sexually assaulted by the time she’s 21.”

Is this a good talking point for any Kennedy, male or female?

Here’s a bit more from Kerry:

“She hasn’t sought money . . . she hasn’t sought fame.” No, all she wants is a crummy Senate seat. The chumps in Congress say it shouldn’t be handed to her? Don’t they know who Caroline is?

Uncle Teddy! She’s bored!

Yup the dems have the country’s interests at heart all right.

Al Franken conning his horse’s ass into a seat. Now this. I suppose not a far cry for THIS seat as all Hillary had was “I was First Lady for 8 years.”

1962, the year I was born, Ted gets into office. He’s still in office and won’t leave until he takes his final breath
(if that’s a few years from now, fine with him).

In past,
a gov of MA would have appointed someone to succeed him
should he pass on or step down. But no, they changed the law in ‘04 because the 99 per cent of Dems in this state were
paranoid that then-gov Mitt Romney would appoint a Republican.
Now they’d love to rescind that and have Deval Patrick (Dem
and friend of Barrack) have that power again.

Laura doesn’t want a senate seat..She wants to go home to Texas and resume a normal life..well as normal as it can be for a former First Lady who actually is a lady in the true sense of the word.
We are going to miss seeing her a lot I’ll wager. I think we are all going to need a stiff drink daily to endure the wife of THE ONE. The CROWN PRINCESS..ER EMPERESS MICHELLE AND THE TWO LITTLE PRINCESSES AND THE ROYAL MUTT.

This concept of her being coronated into the Senate irks me more than Obama.

Everything about this election cycle and the appointments leaving senate seats to be filled leaves me weak...I hate everything about this. The only light thing will be Paul Shanklin’s recordings on Rush to get us through the next 4 years when we HOPE we will have an election and chance to rid ourselves of this SLICK MARXIST. My flag will fly at half staff...in mourning for this country until it is right again ( no pun intended).

The way I see it is that a moron democrat is going to get the seat regardless. It might as well be the princess apparent. Her father did die while serving this country.

“We live in a country where one out of every five girls is sexually assaulted by the time she’s 21.”

Only if the perps surname is Kennedy. The inbreeding of the elites is showing.

I think you guys are missing the big picture...this isn’t about boredom...its about 2012. She is to inherit VP Biden’s position and be the fresh face in 2012....and then take the reins in 2016.

Think about this...to establish a head-count and talley on VP possibilities...who in the Democratic party would possibly put Caroline Kennedy in this group of three? Yet, someone pushed her name and got her on the list. When the other two had to resign because of issues....onward went Caroline and became the chief of the search for Obama’s VP. None of this is by accident.

So what you are watching is like a wrestling event. Andrew Cuomo will be forced to accept this deal because he will be offered the Governor’s chair in the next election. As Caroline leaves her senate spot to be VP....Cuomo merely appoints himself into the position and still gets the senate seat.

When these guys walk around and chat or talk “CHANGE”....there really isn’t much that they will change. But you can always put a fresh face on “CHANGE” and everyone thinks its real change. Its a pretty nifty political trick....but in this case, it’ll work.

Speaking of "missing the Big Picture," I think she wants to give Uncle Teddy the gift of another Kennedy in the Senate before he passes.

This is about sustaining the Kennedy legacy in the Senate. Swearing in Caroline while Uncle Ted is still in the Senate will be a spectacle for Democrats like nothing we've seen before. When Ted finally passes, Senator Caroline will preside over a Senate memorial that will put the Wellstone memorial to shame.
