Senate seat 'is a f***ing valuable thing': what the FBI wiretaps on Rod Blagojevich reveal

FBI wiretaps allegedly caught Rod Blagojevich in a blatant, foul-mouthed bid to gain personally from his power to appoint President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Illinois Senate seat.

The Senate seat, he was overheard telling an unnamed associate, "is a f***ing valuable thing, you just don't give it away for nothing".

He was also recorded as saying that unless "I get something real good", he would appoint himself as Senator.

"I'm going to keep this Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain. You hear what I'm saying. And if I don't get what I want and I'm not satisfied with it, then I'll just take the Senate seat myself."

These are the excerpts that have greeted the residents of Illinois, who awoke this morning to news that their Governor has been arrested on allegations of massive corruption in his office.

The excerpts were attached in an FBI affidavit to the US District Court complaint brought against Mr Blagojevich. The Democratic politician, according to the statement signed by FBI Agent Daniel Cain, "analogised his situation to that of a sports agent shopping a potential free agent to various teams".

He was also heard talking to a Deputy Governor, known as ‘A’, about the vacant Senate seat. He said: “If...they’re not going to offer anything of any value, then I might just take it.”

FBI agents listened to Mr Blagojevich discussing individual candidates for the seat, and overheard him say: “Unless I get something real good for [Candidate 1], shit, I’ll just send myself, you know what I’m saying.”

As I count it, the name Rezko appears 169 times in the affidavit... second only to Blagojevich.

Hussein's image may be tarnished a bit from this but it could have been fatal had someone from within the government not leaked word of the wiretap pretty much at or before the time Fitzgerald got the actual court order issued.

Therefore, one must expect Hussein had received word a few weeks prior to the November election that Blagojevich was radioactive. Some are speculating that Rahm Emanuel tipped Fitzgerald off but when one has prior warning that a piece of radioactive waste will solicit them for a bribe, it's easy to do the right thing.

That guy is so bloated with hubris that Sophocles couldn’t have invented his like. He’s such a sociopath that Freud wouldn’t have written about him, for fear people would think he’d just been making crazy sh!t up. And Blagojevich looks like Bob’s Big Boy’s deranged creepy older brother.

It does help that Blago is not only an egomaniac but also dumb as a brick. If a measure of intellect to ego could be precisely calculated as a percentage he would be at around 0.001%

If he actually had a brain he might have found a way (like so many Democrats) to not get caught.

LOL. Now there’s a great idea for the next SNL skit..... have some questions from Obama’s mega-questionnaire and have one of the SNL cast as Blago, giving hilarious answers of pay-for-play corruption dealings, etc.

“It does help that Blago is not only an egomaniac but also dumb as a brick.”

Agreed. It always puzzled me as to why so many of the polital class (both sides), seemed to be so intellectually challenged. I’m still puzzled, but I finally came to the conclusion that most pols aren’t selected on the basis of intelligence, or ethics for that matter. It’s power, bucks and broads (or boys in some cases). Why are we continually surprised when we discover that politicians can’t seem to stop “eating” when they get close to the “buffet line”?
