Don't cherry pick the language of the Constitution.
The children of illegal aliens are most certainly NOT "subject to the jurisdiction thereof", and are NOT US citizens by circumstance of birth on American soil.
If they are not 'subject to the jurisdiction thereof', how can they be illegal aliens? Are they all diplomats from 'Illegal Alienistan' with diplomatic immunity?
....The children of illegal aliens are most certainly NOT “subject to the jurisdiction thereof”, and are NOT US citizens by circumstance of birth on American soil.....
Anyone in the US, with extremely limited exception, is “subject to the jurisdiction therof.”
ANYONE born on sovereign US soil is a citizen without qualification. Now, if they can be President or not just may be litigated for the first time in over 225 years shortly.
Right, wrong or indifferent, children of illegal immigrants are citizens of the US, if born in this country.
Yes they are. Subject to the jurisdiction means subject to our laws. Regardless of whether they are here legally or illegally, the immigrant can be arrested if they violate the law. Contrast that with a foreign representative protected by diplomatic immunity and not subject to the laws.
So, we couldn't charge them with a crime or make them pay taxes? Are you claiming that the children of illegals effectively have diplomatic immunity?
It's not just illegal aliens, tourists visiting from Germany or Spain, etc., a woman who happens to be pregnant and gives birth during the visit, they are not "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" so that baby is NOT an American citizen, though he was born on U.S. soil.
...and if barry’s daddy wsa a british subject, then the question is if baby barry was subject to the british crown
