Commentary: After Palin hard-sell fails, McCain aides attack her
CNN ^ | 11-06-2008 | Campbell Brown

Whatever you may have thought about John McCain's running mate -- about whether she was qualified, prepared or experienced enough for the job -- try to put all of that aside for just a moment, because Sarah Palin is who she is.

She did not become measurably more intelligent or measurably less intelligent during this campaign. Remember, she was only part of the campaign for a matter of nine weeks.

Sarah Palin is who she is, which is why I find it so stunning that the very people who introduced us to her, who told us she would make a great vice president, have now turned on her with a vengeance.

*I* find it stunning to find that CNN and Campbell Brown have become the purveyors of truth and fairness, and Fox News, Carl Cameron and Bill O'Reilly have become the smear merchants and bomb throwers.

Watch the video - she really sticks it to them, and comes very close to naming names. Whoever these people are, and I think their names will become known publicly, may they NEVER work in politics again.

And I'm still waiting, Senator McCain, for you, with your well-known code of honor, to step up and give us a little straight talk about what's going on here.

McCain may very well have had the worst campaign staff in history and they seem determined to make sure everybody knows it now.

If Palin were a rat McCain would be on every station defending her, but alas, Sarah is a true conservative.

I was pulling for McCain because I despise socialists, but this failure to defend Sarah is aggravating me.

I don’t get McCain at all. Does he no longer have a sense of honor?

I will forever support Sarah Palin. She is the reason I was enthused this campaign and she is the reason I will vote for her in 2012

You really ought to stick to the issues instead of the personal attacks that we hate when others do them to us.

McPain needs to look in his mirror for reasons he lost. He will see himself and those behind him. Not Gov Sarah Palin standing next to him. She was the one that got the conservative vote. GOP needs to see who brung em to this dance or just get the word “LOSERS” engraved in stone on their HQ’s !

“McCain may very well have had the worst campaign staff in history and they seem determined to make sure everybody knows it now.”

I’m now thinking Palin might have been the ONLY competent one.
The only sane one too.

These Mccain staffers are lower than low. As Rush pointed out yesterday, even 7 time loser Bob Shrum of Kerry’s 04 campaign didn’t stoop to this kind of backstabbing.

These cowards need to be exposed and placed on the permanent unemployment line!

As for Mccain himself. He stood up for Palin during the campaign. If he remains silent now, that will say alot about his character.

She doesn’t really defend the Gov...this little speech just gives Brown a chance at more snark.

Her only talent.

McCain’s back to throwing conservatives under the bus and sucking up to left-liberal Democrats.

Surprise, surprise. And how’d all of that goodwill built up with moderates, independents, and the media turn out, Johnny Mac?

The "Palin hard-sell" did not fail, oh self-important CNN feeb. What failed was an utterly incompetent and maddeningly blind campaign staff. Who's brilliant idea was it to have a woman who failed so miserably at being a CEO then be in charge of the Republican campaign???

Sarah could have won this election single-handedly, minus the handlers and muzzle.

This is utter idiocy: "Yes, Sarah drew tens of thousands to her every where she went, but she's the one who screwed everything up. We had our yawning, tepid support well in hand before she came along. *snif*"

Total buffoons, all.

If these “unnamed sources” want to know who lost the election, they need only look in a mirror. And these are the kinds of people McCain would have staffed the White House with.

I am ashamed of John McCain! Whatever else he may be, I always thought McCain a hero.

I fear that McCain’s utter failure to defend his running mate (a lady no less) from such heinous, unfounded, attacks, is dishonorable and cowardly.

I take no pleasure in making that observation.

John McCain, if you won’t defend Sarah Palin to protect her reputation, you need to defend her now to protect your own.

They are just covering their butts so they won't have a rough time finding work.

The only good point of the McCain/Palin ticket was Palin.

My husband works the polls. Many people told him they were voting for Palin. They did not like McCain at all.

This is everything but a purveyance of truth. She just used speculation from aides that we have no idea whether they exist or not, said anything or did not.

Brown is just a hack trying to pile on Palin and the McCain campaign. Where was all her indignation before now? She is trying to use Palin to prove McCain was not competent.

I’m going to give McCain the benefit of doubt on this one for a few more days. He may not even know what’s going on in the media right now.

If I were him I would be taking a serious vacation right now, which Cindy and him probably are, and that would include not watching news or reading the paper.

He did come out in Sarahs defense when the first negative reports started coming out and he seemed quite genuine in what he was saying. These latest stories have been after the election.

There’s nothing shocking about it, she’s helping fan the infighting flames. It benefits the Dems, that’s why she’s doing it, and she gets to make like she’s sticking up for the woman she once questioned in the most sexist manner possible (by questioning her motherly ability).
