Bush: ‘Change’ coming to Washington
The Hill ^ | 05 Nov 2008 | Sam Youngman

Posted on 11/05/2008 8:30:38 AM PST by BGHater

President Bush said Wednesday that he promised his full cooperation to President-elect Barack Obama in their phone conversation on election night.

Bush also reflected on the history-making race, which for the first time propelled a black man to the country’s highest office.

“No matter how they cast their ballots, all Americans can be proud of the history that was made yesterday,” he said, adding, “Many of our citizens thought they would never live to see that day. This moment is especially uplifting for a generation of Americans who witnessed the struggle for civil rights with their own eyes — and four decades later see [that] dream fulfilled.”

Bush acknowledged the historical gravity of the moment, saying that “we’re embarking on a period of change in Washington.”

But he also warned that “there are some things that will not change,” as he sought to assure the country that he would continue to keep the nation safe during the transition period.

“The United States government will stay vigilant in meeting its most important responsibility — protecting the American people,” Bush said. “And the world can be certain this commitment will remain steadfast under our next commander in chief.”

Bush said he will continue to “conduct the people’s business as long as this office remains in my trust,” but he said he will keep Obama “informed” as the 43rd presidency comes to an end with the country fighting two wars and in the grips of an economic crisis.

Outside the White House, where on Tuesday night thousands gathered, cheering and chanting Obama’s name, the crowds had returned to the smaller, more subdued groups of tourists.

The president said it will be a “stirring sight” to watch the Obama family move into the White House, and he knows that “millions of Americans will be overcome with pride at this inspiring moment that so many have awaited so long.”

Bush said he extended an invitation to Obama and future first lady Michelle Obama and said he looks “forward to welcoming them as soon as possible.”

The president also spoke of his conversation with defeated Republican candidate Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), saying that “he’ll continue to make tremendous contributions to our country.”

“Can Bush pardon himself? Can he pardon his administration, then resign and have Chenny pardon him?”

He can only pardon convictions. He cant grant himself or anyone else immunity from future prosecution.

So the answer is no, all around.

He can pardon Scooter, though.

Remember when he said “Let be the first to proudly say ‘Madam Speaker’”? Now he can be the first to say ‘Allah Akbar’ or some crap.

Obama and the Congress are going to drag him and folks in his administration through show trials for the next eight years.

Most likely, W will end up in jail

On the campaign trail, Biden said they would put Bush on trial.

Sadly, you may be right Memphis Moe...

Ford pardoned Nixon “for any crimes he may have committed” and this caused his downfall. Lots of dems wanted to prosecute Nixon. Bush won’t have the balls to do the same.

I think a lot of folks are forgetting the stain and dis-honor that Bill Clinton left in the White House. Bush’s priority since day one has been to maintain the honor of the office.

I’m not blaming anything on Clinton.

BS, you clearly are attempting to put Bush up on some kind of pedestal at Clinton's expense.

No sale...Stop the BS.

There is *nothing* honorable about destroying your own party, and leaving the entire country in a ditch at the hands of very questionable leadership.

This is NOT honor.

That’s why he’s got his ‘approval’ ratings in the gutter!

We (including NOBAMA) can all thank Bush for setting us up for this outcome:

- Utter mismanagement of the war/insurgency (allowing it to develop and fester for several years)

- Costing the Republicans the Congress in 2006 as a result of above.

- Not defending himself/his administration for the last 6 years of incessant harping and carping by the RATS.

- Allowing his approval ratings to fall below the Equator Line - giving NOBAMA a simple ‘fig leaf’ of “Change” to campaign and win an election.

Look, I disagree with Bush’s drunken sailor spending and other issues like Miers and Immigration, but Bush has not broken laws, lied under oath, or used the white house staff as his call girls. We haven’t had him sued for Sexual Harassment. He hasn’t been connected with mysterious deaths of his associates. He hasn’t requested FBI files on political enemies.

Bush hasn’t implemented the policies that many of us were looking for when we voted for him, however, he has conducted himself with Honor and Dignity. Any suggestion otherwise is foolish.

The Republican Party has destroyed itself. Congress fell in love with the money and corrupted itself. Bush did nothing to stop their free spending ways as he didn’t want the demagogue attacks about Mediscare and SS. In fact, I would assert that if Newt Gingrich hadn’t been found out banging his secretary, we might still be in power.

Hastert was a loser, Boner is a loser. We are now going to get leaders like Eric Cantor to put conservatism at the top of the platfrom

My only point is about CONDUCT in OFFICE, not about political outcomes.

He hasn't? Tell me slick, is it not the responsibility and sworn duty of the President of the United States to secure and protect our sovereign borders?

Yes or no?

The fact is we all know Bush and his administration have done just the opposite and have aided and abetted, and publicly encouraged millions to enter the country illegally. Where you been?

Bush has made American citizenship all but pointless. Been around any Major American cities lately?

Stop trying to sugar coat this Bush disaster. No one buys this crap.

NO SALE

You best take this crap to one of those threads where they sit around and worship Bush all day, where accurate, unpleasant comments are forbidden.
