I live in a nice area, but there is a bad neighborhood a few blocks away. I think my neighborhood could be where they come if it gets bad. I pray nothing happens, but I am pretty concerned. I am stocking up on supplies because I am not leaving my house for a week if he loses, but it will be worth it for the country.

I've opened my armory- I used to be a class III dealer-- and laid out ammo, haversacks, and an assortment of shotguns, subguns, BAR's, and a couple of belt-fed HMG's.

The only thing we lack is a squad of men to man them...

But we're as ready as we're going to be.

No, I'm not kidding.

(Experts say U.S. economic conditions and the presidential election are partly responsible for an increase in the sale of guns and ammunition this year)

Yes. Actual Americans getting ready to defend their County and their families from the Socialist/Terrorist assaults coming...

Buy ammunition NOW.
The feds can not come and take ALL our guns away. They can make purchasing ammunition illegal.

*** Any advice? ***

#15 had a good one, the Remington 870. If I may add, a Mossberg 500 can also be had cheap (relatively), +/-$320.00 in IL where I am. Price is for the 'Home/Personal Defense Models'.

One thing, if you've never fired a 12ga shotgun, it may be a bit much for you recoil wise. So a 20ga may be better and it will still 'take care of business'.

Also, since you're going to a gun show, look for Maverick Arms. They are Mossberg Shotguns but a lot cheaper. Approx $250.00 and every accy for a Mossberg fits a Maverick shotgun.

Maverick shotguns are like Lennox Furnaces & AC Units. Lennox is a Carrier but with a different name plate and a lot cheaper. OOPS! Did I just give away an industry secret??? :-)

(its really not so *secret*, there's other HVAC 'brand names' that do the same).

'Report hike in gun and ammunition sales'

That's a fact as to guns.

To see this yourself, just go to Davidson's Gallery of Guns and use their "Gun Genie" to see how many different firearms have "Zero Available". Especially in Personal/Home Defense model Shotguns.

There wan an H&R model (yep, H&R) I was looking at three weeks ago, now all are gone. And Remington 870's and Mossberg 500's are going fast.

It’s very telling that the article describes an increase in the tax rate of ammunition from 7% to 37% as “modest”.

That was going to be my suggestion—or a Mossberg, they're even cheaper but a good weapon. If you are a small frame person, you might even try a 20 gage. If you are a small lady, like me, you might even try a “Junior” or “Youth” model.

Buy a case of “ought”, or “double ought”, buck shells and go directly to a gun range. It's gonna be loud so prepare yourself, but you can do this. With a shotgun “aim” is not quite as important as with a handgun. You just need to “point” it in the right direction for maximum impact. (The shells I recommended have either eight or fourteen pellets in them, so they hit an “area”, approx. a foot in diameter, rather than a “spot” like a handgun or rifle.)

Jack, my favorite personal shotgun is a 870 Wingmaster Junior 20 gage. I love it. My sweet hubby got it for me for Christmas 2 years ago.

My two cents: Remington 870 12 ga. Inexpensive, very reliable, excellent abd versatile defensive weapon

Got one yesterday.

Bless you, backhoe, we’re doing the same thing here. Praying it is a futile exercise, but preparing just the same.

A question, please? Do they make an extra capacity “magazine” for my Remington 870 Youth model? It’s a 20 gage.

I'm not current on the newest stuff- I seem to recall that some aftermarket manufacturers offered magazine extensions for some shotguns- and the 870 has been around a while, if such things are still being made, it's likely to be available for it.

Ask your local dealer about it.

Because the people know things that the MSM can’t or won’t report.

And because some people remember history ...

Best wishes to you both- couple of things occurred to me on further thinking—

Some tacticians advise not being too concerned about the magazine capacity, they’ll tell you to practice reloading at every opportunity- keeping it “topped up.”

The old Army issue shotgun shell carrier is pretty good— it’s flattish pouch that holds 12 shells in loops, and clips over a belt. It’s rather small.

Another I like is the old M-60 machinegun belt carrier pouch- it has a strap to throw over your shoulder, and you can stuff a box of shotgun shells inside, or dump them loose and fish them out. Not elegant, but keeps reloads handy.
