You won’t believe the title of Bill Ayers’ keynote lecture, scheduled next month, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln:

“We are each other’s keepers.”

I was waiting for this one. My daughter lives in NE and says she’s buying a Husker flag and flying it upside down at half mast.

I’m about due to receive another alumni contribution letter. They won’t like what I tuck into their return envelope at their expense.

This is a copy of the response my daughter got when she e-mailed the school:

"Sherri, thank you for your comments. Dr. Ayers was invited earlier this year for this student research conference, based on his outstanding research and scholarship in the field of education. He is highly regarded in his field and by his peers, scholars and students.

He will not talk about anything other than his research on teaching and urban school reform.

It's important that you know that we do not condone violence or any of the behaviors that Dr. Ayers engaged in 40 years ago. I can understand your strong feelings about this speaker and will pass your comments along to the dean and chancellor's office.

Kelly Bartling, manager of news"

“We are each other’s keepers.”

"...except when it comes to PIG cops and firefighters, war criminals such as uniformed service men and women, profiteers in private capitalist business Enterprise, or fascist Republicans and Nazi conservatives. They are fair game to maim, bomb, rape, rob and pillage"--Ayers

Yeah, that's the standard BS reply from the school. The fact of the matter is that if Ayers hadn't been brought back into the spotlight because of Obama, he would not have been invited under any pretext. If this clown was such a great "scholar" and so "highly regarded in his field" by his peers, then why wasn't he invited long ago?

It would have never ever crossed anyone's mind to invite this terrorist to speak if he hadn't been dragged out from under his slimy rock and brought to national attention recently.

Just in:

ov. Heineman’s Comment on University of Nebraska’s Invitation to Bill Ayers

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today released the following statement regarding the University of Nebraska - Lincoln’s invitation to Bill Ayers to speak at the University on November 15.

“Chairman of the Board of Regents Chuck Hassebrook and President of the University J.B. Milliken should immediately rescind the invitation extended to Bill Ayers to speak at the University on November 15. This is an embarrassment to the University of Nebraska and the State of Nebraska. Bill Ayers is a well known radical who should never have been invited to the University of Nebraska.”

Well, I can tell you that people here in Nebraska are outraged by it. Unfortunately, it came out today that per the speaking contract they signed with him, he gets paid even if they cancel him. So the slimy commie terrorist gets his money no matter what.

The governor has asked the school to cancel his invite and alumni and donors are bombarding the school with phone calls and emails threatening everything from stopping all donations to having their kids withdraw from the school.

This will undoubtedly go down as one of the stupidest moves any department has ever made at UNL.

UPDATE TO THE STORY

It came out on the news last night that the University has cancelled Ayers speaking engagement. This is from the news story posted at tv station KOLN/KGIN (a local CBS affiliate) :

"The storm of controversy swirling around the University of Nebraska - Lincoln campus should calm now that UNL has canceled Bill Ayers' speech in Lincoln.

Although the Illinois professor was never convicted of any crimes, his ties to domestic terrorism had some outraged about his visit to the Cornhusker state.

Though Ayers' has been canceled, university officials said no state money would have been used to pay Ayers for his visit to Lincoln."

Here is the link to the story posted on their website if you want to read the whole story: University Cancels Ayers Speaking Engagement.

I did not see where they gave an actual reason for canceling, but by the amount of people threatening to withhold donations and such, it's fairly easy to guess.
