When the story broke about Fossetts disappearance, I posted that it was likely he faked his own death, for whatever reason. And I got flamed for it here at FR.

I still hold the same view.

I still hold the same view.

Absent any evidence to the contrary, I agree with you.

Galt's Gulch, anyone?

I just finished re-reading the book after first reading it 20 years ago. It was a refresher. I vote for Gault’s Gulch. I only wish I could go.

I’ve seen a small valley just south of Markleeville that resembles my vision of GG. Don’t have a pic, however.

Wonder what the condition of the clothing will show. Blood? Any predators in the area? Or are his personal belongings neatly stashed?

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Interesting.

The won’t find him. He’s with Emilia Airhart somewhere in the South Pacific sipping on a Mai Thai right now.

Always wanted to start a beachfront bar on some Caribean Island called “Gault’s Gulch.”

Interesting. I sort of thought he might have had a medical problem and passed out in flight. He was flying a Bellanca Super Decathlon which is a conventional high-wing monoplane from the 1970s and isn’t pressurized.

Did they ever find the plane?

No mention of that. I would imagine a search team is being put together or already enroute to that area.

If he votes this year in Cook County, Illinois, we will know that he is dead for sure —

There’s a big hole in the “faked death” theory : he was massively rich. Massively rich people don’t fake their deaths and leave all of the money behind. It would be pretty easy to trace his financial moves in the year before the disappearance to rule that out. Which I’m sure has been done, as the dude is probably life insured out the gills. Chances that this is a fake death approach zero.

Side note - I grew up near a Bellanca factory in Minnesota and used to see them flying all over all the time.
Never worked there but knew folks that did.

The first Bellanca flew in 1913 and over the years, Bellanca aircraft established numerous world records for endurance and distance flying.
