Fire shuts Kinder Morgan Pasadena, Texas oil terminal {gasoline, diesel}

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP's Pasadena, Texas oil products terminal shut late Tuesday due to a fire and will likely resume limited operations later Wednesday, a spokesman for the company said.

He said the fire was under control and the company was allowing it to burn out. It did not pose any danger to other structures.

The Pasadena terminal supplies the two largest pipelines in the U.S., the Colonial and Explorer pipelines.

"The fire overnight at the Kinder Morgan facility in Pasadena will have an impact on Colonial's operations," said Colonial spokesman Steve Baker, adding that the pipeline's main line was still operating at reduced rates.

Baker did not have specific information on how supply volumes would be affected, but said the Colonial pipeline is using alternative origin points to supply its pipeline to replace the supply it gets from the Pasadena terminal,

Not a lot of backup for this pipeline.

Some folks in the Southeast probably already wish they had their own offshore platforms and associated refineries.
