Why didn’t you three or the “Dali-Bama” push for the passage of sweeping banking, mortgage lending and loan insurance reform legislation back in 2003 and 2005? Bush, McCain and hundreds of economists saw this disaster coming, but oh no not you!

Simply stated it was because Schumer, Dodd, Frank and your cronies like Reid, Rangel, Murtha, Boxer, Diane “Franken-Feinstein”, Hillary “Rotten” Clinton, and Nancy “Stretch” Pelosi were too busy concentrating on blocking every piece of legislation on the Presidential wish list just to make the administration look bad. The plan was to keep the public and the news media focused on the war in Iraq, all in an effort to swing power back to liberal Democrats prior to the election.

Well you three back benchers it worked and thank you for this mess we are in. Now you and so many others on the liberal left, including Senators Joe Biden and Barack Obama want to cry foul... and it stinks sirs.

President Bush and John McCain saw this coming and you three did nothing, just because you clowns were in the middle of a big power grab you all chose to sit on your hands while leading in the charge to do nothing! You and so many others like you on the left refused the pass the FDIC Banking Reform Act of 2005 H.R. 1185 and you also refused to pass the Mortgage Regulatory Reform Act of 2005. Each of you claim now that Republicans have supposedly pushed us into this mess, yet you all continually blocked the passage of proposed Republican legislation to prevent it, just so you could win an election!

I am delighted that McCain has done what I recommended he do in a vanity authored three days ago, to wit: deliver a major address on the economy. I heard only part of the address beginning where he blamed greedy people on Wall Street and the Chairman of the SEC. Did McCain in fact blame Democrats, did he name names?

For someone who is so stentorian in his repeated calls for Chris Cox's scalp, McCain really ought to pin the blame for this mess on the Democrats where it mostly belongs. I believe his gambit to avoid personal political blame for the economic situation by throwing the Republican party, the president, and the administration including Chairman Cox, overboard will not succeed because the media will see to it that all Republicans, including McCain, are tainted.

To the degree that the speech called for transparency and consolidation of rulemaking and oversight, it should garner the support of conservatives. To the degree that he promotes giveaways, conservatives should be wary. His attack on Obama for raising taxes was well received by his conservative audience. I rather got the impression that some of the other observations are less warmly received.

His delivery was adequate; he was entirely believable.

I would love to read a transcript of the speech.

Naming names:

Two years ago, I called for reform of this corruption at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Congress did nothing. The Administration did nothing. Senator Obama did nothing, and actually profited from this system of abuse and scandal. While Fannie and Freddie were working to keep Congress away from their house of cards, Senator Obama was taking their money. He got more, in fact, than any other member of Congress, except for the Democratic chairmen of the committee that oversees them. And while Fannie Mae was betraying the public trust, somehow its former CEO had managed to gain my opponent’s trust to the point that Senator Obama actually put him in charge of his vice presidential search.

This CEO, Mr. Johnson, walked off with tens of millions of dollars in salary and bonuses for services rendered to Fannie Mae, even after authorities discovered accounting improprieties that padded his compensation. Another CEO for Fannie Mae, Mr. Raines, has been advising Senator Obama on housing policy. This even after Fannie Mae was found to have committed quote “extensive financial fraud” under his leadership. Like Mr. Johnson, Mr. Raines walked away with tens of millions of dollars.

Senator Obama may be taking their advice and he may be taking their money, but in a McCain-Palin administration, there will be no seat for these people at the policy-making table. They won’t even get past the front gate at the White House.

Boggles the mind that this idiot has gotten this far, doesn’t it! And, this is only ONE of many issues. Very scarey thinking he and Biden are so close to be the ones to run this great country. I thought it was interesting that he threw in that he had spoken w Paulson and Bernake. I suspect McCain may have as well, but he’s not a name dropper to make him sound presedential. Reminds me of when NObama was on this Summer Camp Tour of the ME and Europe - -I met w Sarkosky, Merkl, etc., etc. He makes me cringe!

I hate to sound like the tin-foil crowd, especially since I have already noted how funny the internet has been working lately.

This crisis started after the CFR ticker started. If the next few weeks bring crisis after crisis, I will stock up on the foil.

We watched and I have to say I think it is the best speech I’ve seen McCain give. A great orator he is not, yet he did pretty well this time.

It is a mistake to say the Bush Administration and Republicans share the blame.

It is, however, the truth. Bush actually looks pretty good for having proposed reform in '02. But he (understandably) lost focus on the issue.

The Republicans in Congress have no excuse.

It is wrong not to hang this around the neck of Democrats.

He's doing so. But to ONLY blame the Democrats would be a mistake, for two reasons -- first of which is that it would be a false accusation, because it's incomplete.

Second, and most importantly, if McCain wants to sell himself as a reformer, he must put space between himself and BOTH parties. His "maverick" reputation helps to make this plausible, but he must be seen to be attacking the whole problem.

It's a pretty good approach.
