Monks and nuns wear rosaries as belts, not necklaces.

A rosary is meant as a devotional item, not a fashion accessory.

Wearing it to trick out your outfit is sacrilegious.

This is my understanding as well. Aren't they worn by the religious to keep them "at hand"?
