NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- On a cigarette break from washing dishes in the French Quarter, Michael Kennedy swung open the door of Café Maspero, and the briny smell of raw shrimp followed him outside. A woman walks her dog down the streets of New Orleans, where most have fled in anticipation of Hurricane Gustav.

"You gotta make as much money as you can, because when we shut down -- and we're gonna shut down -- that's it for a long while," the 26-year-old said, exhaling, a dribble of sweat rolling into his mouth.

"The thing is," he continued, "most people don't have cars to leave, don't have money for gas. Pay for a hotel for that long? I mean, you have to do whatever you have to do, and I guess I'm gonna stay and work."

CNN has roughly a half dozen story templates. Their “journalists” just change the names, events, and other minutiae.

the French Quarter and uptown should fare relatively well, and even the parts that flooded may escape flooding. The West Bank is under the gun this time.

Ever eager to quote myself:

I think it’s all about Jindal. Regardless of storm strength and damage, if lives are saved and it appears to be an orderly recovery, Jindal has the burden of promoting the ticket. He’ll be in a perfect position to do so, and will illustrate the relevance of Palin’s gubernatorial experience. He has just a couple of years on her in that area, and less experience overall in an executive capacity. Opportunity does indeed appear to knock, but it’s on Bobby right now

I was channel surfing and caught a reporter on CNN ask Chertoff if the evacuation order had been called soon enough.

Already second guessing.

Here we go again. Get another $240 billion taxpayer dollars ready and tell Shep and Geraldo to bring lots of Kleenex.

What happened to New Orleans last time was a tragedy, no doubt. But hurricanes hit the U.S. every year. Can we please spread our sympathy around?

hi guys just wondering and please dont berate me for my question-what is the chances that this storm will be as catastropic as Katrina? The reason I ask is that I see it has went from 4 to cat 3 and it is scheduled to continue in a westward track towards Eastern Louisiana (almost follows Rita)?

What do you guys think makes this one seem more perilious as Katrina??

“women,minorities hardest hit”

I was watching a report earlier today about a woman complaining that no hotel would take her and her EIGHT kids in one room. At least one is new since katrina. Gee, I wonder where the babies daddys are?
