15 Republicans, 1 dem caucusing independent, and 4 democrats (I counted Kearns Goodwin as a dem).
Last week we had 1 Republican and 14 dems.
Horribly written article out this morning says Linsee pushed so hard for Lieberman that he pissed off the other advisers.
Palente just smacked down Tom Brokaw on Meet the Press over abortion. Wow! “You never hear this question being asked about Barack Obama”
For those who missed Safire’s return re: Obama
The Audacity of Hype

ABORTION !!!!
How many "Single Issue Voter" blocks are there in the Republican Party that the Media and the Dems love to jump on?
Abortion.
NRA Gun Owners.
Fiscal Conservatives.
Anti-Immigration.
Et Al.
GREAT move John -- he's got both the Dems and the MSM spinning like never before. I love it!
And then the whole commercial turned into what looked like a clip from Song of the South. I wonder if anybody involved in putting that commercial together had any idea what the frame of reference was.
Well, off to the ABC round-table.
Saudis, expats back Obama
As long as the topic is Sarah Palin, Cokie Roberts has turned into a closet conservative; very protective with tones of, "you go, girl."
When the topic is New Orleans, Cokie reverts back to Bush Derangement Syndrome, because nobody else was responsible for doing anything there.
Sam Donaldson doesn't think highly of Sarah Palin. Maybe she should offer to go to his ranch and help clear the coyotes; she would not have to fire a weapon to do so, because I understand from other threads that she can just throw bullets at the vermin and kill them that way.
Then, she can skin the coyote, make a rug for Sam out of the carcass, and dye the skin so it matches his eyebrows.
Who is this Dowd guy?
Oh, joy.
Last week I was still recovering from an all nighter watching the Olympics.
This week I am preparing a birthday dinner for my friend Phil it is his birthday tomorrow.
I have made a fresh fruit and cream gateaux for desert and we are having roast lamb to start.
Will hopefully check in later and read comments
See you all

Tried to listen. Tried to become involved. Problem is Hurricane Gustav is now foreground and politics is background.
Doris the historian was much less supportive, and Andrea Mitchell was trying to be objective, but seemed to hope that Gov. Palin fails.
The general consensus is that VP SP is a very risky choice, made for political purposes only, and could implode at any moment. Joe Biden, on the other hand, is a statesman with vast experience. (and here I thought he was just a hack).
Thank you, everyone, for making this a great thread today!
To the regulars, thanks as always. You know who you are so I won’t name names! But you are, as Phsstpok used to say, the Jedi Council of FR!!!
To the folks who reported, thank you so very much! I cannot get local tv broadcasts so I rely on your reporting (as do so many others) and today it was great! The mindset of the screaming faces (as Laz used to call them) is plain as day. Your words brought it to life.
To those budding and established political theorists I say bravo! You prove yourselves well here. Great job!
To those who came to argue and stir up trouble, well, so what? Do you really think you suceeded? Yawn. just another day on Free Republic dot com.
I wanted to catch FNS after work today. Instead, all I got was Gustav.
I looked for a video on FOX.com but all I got was a transcript of McCain.
Meanwhile the City in a Bowl (below sea level) is going to be needing a few more hundreds of billions of dollars, and we get to watch it all happen live and in color, and in some cases High Definition TV.
