Five more arrested from west Texas polygamist sect
KANSAS CITY STAR ^ | 7/28/08 | APRIL CASTRO

Posted on 07/29/2008 6:44:21 AM PDT by ricks_place

Five indicted members of a West Texas polygamist sect turned themselves in to authorities Monday to face charges related to allegations of child sexual abuse.

The five men were indicted last week with Warren Jeffs, the already-jailed leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The charges stem from a state investigation into allegations that the sect forced underage girls into marriage and motherhood with much older men.

State authorities raided the FLDS's Yearning For Zion Ranch in Eldorado on April 3, eventually sweeping more than 400 children into foster care until the state Supreme Court said officials had overreached and sent the children home.

Raymond Merrill Jessop, 36, Allan Eugene Keate, 56, Michael George Emack, 57, and Merrill Leroy Jessop, 33, were charged with one count each of sexual assault of a child, a felony punishable by a sentence ranging from five to 99 years or life in prison. Their bond was set at $100,000 each.

Merrill Leroy Jessop also was charged with bigamy, a felony with the same potential penalties as the sexual assault charge.

Lloyd Hammon Barlow, 38, the ranch's onsite physician, was charged with three counts of failure to report child abuse, a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in prison. His bond was set at $5,000.

Attorney General Greg Abbott on Monday declined to provide details of what the men were accused of doing.

Efforts to find the men's attorneys were not immediately successful. A message left for FLDS attorney Rod Parker was not immediately returned.

Abbott said the state would try to have Jeffs extradited to Texas to face a charge of sexual assault of a child.

Last week's charges were the first since the April raid.

“Over 400 kids were harassed and tortured for two months! “

Thank God they didn’t have to wear panties on their heads, or we’d never hear the end of it.

“Rationale” is the noun you meant to use.

Sometimes there’s no perfect justice in a fallen world. All we can do is go from where we are.

The abuse is interrupted and (supposedly, hopefully) halted. The boys and girls know that most of the people in the world consider polygamy and child marriage to be serious enough to separate what they considered to be families. They’ve heard that some of us don’t consider their living arrangements “families,” since the men seem interchangeable and women and children can be taken from one and given to another.

And finally, girls who reach puberty are in much less danger of being traded off to men old enough to be their fathers and grandfathers, although the danger isn’t over.

You lie.

The children were removed because of the visible, obvious evidence that under age girls were being impregnated by men who could only have sex with them by rape.

Don’t be a fool, yourself. You are confusing a case where it was obvious that underage girls were being systematically traded between families for the purpose of rape and breeding with your own agenda.

The men are interchangeable pawns, at least as much, if not more than the women.

That’s that way of the oldest recorded lie: “You won’t die, and you’ll be like gods.”

(I keep thinking that the 5 were told to turn themselves in so that their “wives” could be recycled.)

Yeah something isn’t right about this. What do you have to have to post bond? 10-15%? So for less than 100K they could all be out. I know that young girl has got them worried about the trust but they should have been able to bail them out by now.

Barlow the doc bonded out yesterday. He wasn’t under felony charges and his bond was set at $5,000. From what I’ve read the other four have made bond.

Those are the words of a 'useful idiot' to quote someone from the past.

You want to think this was about protecting the kids, go ahead, be the fool. The actions of the tyrants prove the lie. The Courts decision proved the lie too, but long after the tyrants had kidnapped the children.

They've got your kids in their sights too. How you can care so little about your own families safety that you cheer the tyrants as they work their way to your doorstep is disgusting.

There are lots of these happening, just look around. Very rarely does 2 weeks pass that one doesn’t hit the news, and often there are a couple a week.

My kids are grown. That doesn’t mean that I’m not worried about my grandkids and their families in the future.

We have a strong home schooling community in Texas, because the people who defend the family have acted to ensure that the law protects our children. That’s one reason the Texas Rangers has been involved in the investigation of the flds cult.

I’m one of the ones who goes to Austin, to lobby for clear cut laws on the age of consent, for protection of our daughters and sons.

Again, it was obvious that those laws were being flaunted. To allow a bunch of old men to get by with trading their daughters to each other while throwing away their sons is abuse. It weakens the true families and opens the door to license rather than liberty.

Everyday we hear of family members who do horrible things to their own children. Everyday we hear of another child who mysteriously disappears. Everyday another pediaphile ring is uncovered. The battle never ends. Nor does the evil.

I understand your weariness of the government. Anything they touch is usually destroyed or irreparably altered in some way.

However, when people hide behind religion to cover their perverted treatment of young boys and girls, we should look away?

We pay the government to seek out and arrest such evil people. If they don't do their job, WHO WILL?

LOL You are such a degenerate reprobate it isn't funny. If they had any evidence like that at the time then they could have kept the women and children.

Now that they apparently think that they have some evidence that the men raped children why aren't you calling for the State to remove the women and children like they did before? Do you know how to spell hypocrite?

Warren will have a vision/revelation that people swap sex partners and children again. A version of musical chairs. The men remaining outside jail will have more brood mares!

I don’t know. You got the latest issue of PLAYBOY?

Unlike you I don't get my kicks seeing pictures of children being abused. It is your side that likes to post and look at child porn.
