House Democrats Call for Nationalization of Refineries

Urgent: House Democrats call for nationalization of refineries

Per Pergram-Capitol Hill

House Democrats responded to President's Bush's call for Congress to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling. This was at an on-camera press conference fed back live.

Among other things, the Democrats called for the government to own refineries so it could better control the flow of the oil supply.

They also reasserted that the reason the Appropriations Committee markup (where the vote on the amendment to lift the ban) was cancelled so they could focus on preparing the supplemental Iraq spending bill for tomorrow.

At an off-camera briefing, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said the same. And a senior Republican House Appropriations Committee aide adds that "there were multiple reasons for the postponement" including discussion on the supplemental. But the aide said there was the thought that Democrats may wish to avoid a debate today on energy amendments.

Here are the highlights from briefing

Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), member of the House Appropriations Committee and one of the most-ardent opponents of off-shore drilling

1115

We (the government) should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market.

Hinchey on why they postponed the Appropriations markup

1119

I think there aren't enough votes for the Peterson amendment. It wasn't taken up (the Interior spending bill) because of the omnibus Appropriations bill. That's the main focus of the Appropriations Committee.

Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL)

1116

They (Republicans) have a one-trick pony approach.

Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV), Chairman of the Resources Committee

1106

You cannot drill your way out of this.

Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA), chairman of the House Select Committee on Global Warming

1111

The White House has become a ventriloquist for the oil and gas energy.

As best I can tell Obama never said that.

With all the crap he did say, why make people question if he really said any of it by making stuff up?

Who needs foreign enemies when we have home grown ones sucking the life out of America in DC? This is going to come as a major shock to the clueless sheeple.

AMEN! I swear, the Islamofacists are more honorable enemies than the Marxist Rat party. At least the Islamofacists are honest about their desire to destroy this country.

(I’m getting about as tired of hearing that as I did “culture of corruption”.)

Ah, so Maxine Waters wasn’t the only one who was thinking this! I’m so glad this is beginning to come to a head, before the election! It might give pause to some of those folks who have become so enamored of Obama, when they realize what his party supports.

You could always run the A/C down to bone cold, and light up your fireplace! A friend of mine from Memphis said her family did that one summer. They’d each gotten home from a really bad day, and were remembering how relaxing it was, sitting in front of a roaring fire in the winter, so they cranked up the A/C and lit a fire! Improved their moods considerably!

I don’t think you’re going to hear it very much at all.

The local rag over in Billings (which usually toots the DNC/MSM horn on cue so faithfully that they don’t even spellcheck) has
ABSOLUTELY
POSITIVELY
JACK DIDDLY SH**
NOTHING
for coverage on anything about this socialist takeover scam the traitorcrats spouted about yesterday.

JMHO, somebody has suddenly realized that those flappyjawed congresscritters have just unreeled their crank in public and trod upon themselves whilst wearing trackshoes. They therefore will now be involved mostly in damage control (ie scratch sand over it and hope they can ignore it out of existence) until they can come up with a bumpersticker that Joe Sixpack won’t try to stick in some politician’s ear.

Joe ain’t happy, boys and girls.

Despite all the negative publicity, Joe also ain’t entirely stupid.

Joe’s spending too much on gas, and telling him that the same government controls that caused this problem are now going to magically make everything “change” is selling like Roadapple pancakes.

DNC has to come up with a better line than this crap mo’ skosh, if they don’t want to wind up wearing it for a suppository.

Think retaliation against those who don’t vote for the Democrat party & Democrats appointing the bookkeepers for this refineries thus enabling themselves to the money that are supposed to go into maintaining the equipment to instead be skimmed off into democrat party coffers.

This will happen & if you doubt it just look at the rest of the world were the “Glorious leaders “ take over the oil industry this is exactly what happens & it is as predictable as watching the sun rise in the East.

If your waiting on a mass group of American citizens to stand up and say enough.. Your waiting in the wrong line. It isnt going to happen.

This needs to start the same place it always starts. A group of people with the courage to risk it and the MEANS to be successful. Any successful attempt to halt the reverse this drop into communism and restore the Constitution will need to start with existing leadership in a few states and be backed up by at least a portion of the US military. It will also require people like us to put our lives on hold and go support the cause.

Are there any existing state governments and elected officials with the courage to start this up? Are there any members of the military who understand the oath they took and are willing to ignore the orders of the federal government and instead answer to the breakaway states?

Guess we will find out, cause this is coming to a head.

Maurice Hinchey is an idiot. For you new Freepers, he is the “representative” of Ithaca, the Triple Cities (Binghamton) all the way to the Hudson. He was caught at National Airport with a gun once, and, the most infamous thing I have ever heard out of his mouth was in November 1998 at Christ Church in Binghamton, he actually said this...
“Conservatives remind me of the German Youth of the 30’s.”

*sigh* My new girlfriend lives in the Binghamton area. I feel sorry for her. With all the new interest in drilling for gas in the shale up there (including on their farm), I'm sure this clown will be making things as difficult as possible for everyone in that regard. Gah, now I'm angry.

Paging Joseph Stalin... Paging Joseph Stalin...

If the government controls the oil supply, we had better buy horses because there won’t be any gasoline.

You know what scares me?

A scenario Glide625 outlined this morning. (He and I work for an oil company.)

Imagine that oil becomes a national concern. Its production then becomes a matter of national security. Once the federales realize they’ve put all their qualified personnel into high-pressure jobs like “TSA agent,” they have to keep those of us who already work here.

If no one can do our jobs, the oil won’t get pumped and refined, so we won’t be allowed to leave.

THAT is scary.

That thought should scare the crap out of every American.

It sure does scare the crap out of me. Maybe, I'm just young so I haven't been around long enough to see that the country can actually survive people who have ideas like this *coughcartercough*. This just seems like a whole new level of unabashed calls for socialism, though. And, yes, I don't know that the vast majority of Americans could actually figure out WHY this is bad even if you generously assume they could have an inkling it could be bad idea. *sigh* Guess I'm back to crossing off "having kids" from the list of things to do in the future. At least that puts me back on the same page as my girlfriend.

.

Neoliberals are mentally disordered, suffer from cognitive dissonance, and are often self-destructive.

As their cognitive dissonance swells, from being forced to deal with reality by an aware and angry populace, their mental disorder will become glaringly evident and malevolent, leading to greater self-destruction.

More popcorn!

Dumb statement. How does owning a refinery guarantee the free flow of oil?

The best possible thing for Republican’s to use in the campaigns this year is quotes from the Democrats. Just let those Rats go on and on and on and they’ll do more damage than anyone on the right (or even in the middle these days) could do, ever.
