House Republicans vow push on oil drilling Thu Jun 12, 2008 3:57pm EDT

By Donna Smith

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congressional Republicans vowed on Thursday to make a major push for more U.S. oil and gas drilling and in the process force Democrats to cast difficult votes at a time of skyrocketing gasoline prices.

With the November congressional and presidential elections looming, Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are blaming each other for rising energy costs and gasoline prices that are topping $4 a gallon.

Republicans cited Democratic opposition to opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and more offshore areas to oil and gas exploration and drilling.

House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio said Republicans would try to raise public awareness and force more votes on the issue. He said Republicans would back a comprehensive approach of more oil and gas drilling as well as energy conservation and moves toward alternative fuels supported by Democrats.

"Over the next five months, House Republicans will fight every single day to hold Democrats accountable for their dismal record on producing more energy in our country," Boehner told reporters.

Voices on the left said:

“Iraq will never be a sovereign nation.”
“Iraq will never have an election.”
“Saddam will never be captured.”
“The push will never work.”
...and soooooo very many other lies.

Now they say we cannot ‘drill our way out of this.’

Baseball players get FIRED for batting 0.200. The left is batting 0.000.

Let's put the pink slip in their paycheck in November.

"We cannot drill our way out of this," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California countered.

She should use more precise grammar. We certainly CAN drill our way out of this. So what she obviously meant to say was that we "MAY not," which is true because her and her social engineering progressive ilk won't allow it.

But since we may not drill our way out of this, I guess we CAN try to address the problem by raising taxes, implementing price controls, restricting economic activity, and passing more laws reducing our use of oil due to "global warming" concerns. Of course, we really CAN'T succeed in solving the problem that way, but at least we'll all feel good about ourselves while we're walking, freezing in the winter, sweltering in the summer and watching our economy go down the tubes.

Kumbaya, baby. Kumbaya.

If we drill off the coasts, in ANWR, use our oil shale, and drill in the Dakotas, we can supply our current domestic needs for 100 years, which would certainly be enough time to develop new technologies.

And create a LOT of high paying jobs at the same time!

Drilling for oil here is just common sense, but the price of oil is mainly high because of devaluation of the dollar, not because of supply & demand.

The problem is the clown at the head of the Republican ticket is not for oil drilling.

“We cannot drill our way out of this,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California countered.

This is the new Pavlovian response the Democrats have to every problem. It now has to share time with, “Raise taxes on the rich.”

Anybody thinking John McCain is going to address this problem in a conservative manner would be best to remember that he is against drilling for oil in ANWR, and more than likely, anywhere else in the US.

We know the D’s are a big part of the problem, but let’s not give the Pubbies to much credit.

Why didn’t they start this ball rolling when they had the House, the Senate and the White House? Why does Boehner say we’re going to hear a lot of noise about this “over the next five months?” We should have had oil wells all over ANWR and the Gulf and a refinery on Barbra Streisand’s estate in 2001.

RINOs disgust me as much as the Dems.

Good, good, good.

This is a winning issue and they need to jam down their throats.

"We cannot drill our way out of this," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California countered.

How would she know that? The only solutions she's ever had to anything have been "tax and regulate", and neither one has ever gotten one drop of oil out of the ground.

It's really very simple.

For Democrats to succeed, America has to fail.

They tried to make the war an issue by sabotaging it, - it didn't work.

Now they are trying to sabotage the economy, because the more poor and dependent people there are, the more power the Democrats have.

What better way to sabotage our economy than to limit access to oil and drive up the price?

THAT's why they have obstructed oil exploration for 50 years.
