Bush lays gas blame on Congress
The Washington Times ^ | April 30, 2008 | Jon Ward

Posted on 04/30/2008 6:45:33 AM PDT by Soliton

President Bush blamed the Democratic Congress for blocking bills he said would have lowered gas prices, marking a coordinated strategy with congressional Republicans to shift responsibility for the nation's economic woes to Democrats. They, in turn, were quick to strike back. "I've repeatedly submitted proposals to help address these problems. Yet time after time, Congress chose to block them," Mr. Bush said yesterday during a news conference in the Rose Garden.

Bush needs to make the case that the economy was great UP UNTIL THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER CONGRESS.
He needs to make it clear that their policies, and their obstruction of Republican legislation is what has allowed the economy to tank. He needs to say the laws passed by Congress are harming the economy, and the Democrats are preventing Republicans from acting with sound economic legislation.

And John McCain should take up this point too. Say he’s seen it happen in the Senate.

Republicans need to get on the offense on the economy and stop playing defense.
They need to push back hard. Make the case that the economy was good under their leadership, but Democrats are in control now, it’s the Democrats’ recession.

Gas prices are high and what do Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer want to do? Why confiscate oil company profits - publicly-held companies which many Americans own a part of through stock - of course! Not that that will produce a single gallon more of gasoline. But open up ANWR - NO! That would upset the caribou! I know, let’s build more windmills!

Senate Republicans yesterday circulated a picture of Democratic senators standing in front of a Capitol Hill gas station on April 27, 2006, when they protested prices of $3.09 for a gallon of regular, next to a picture of the same sign this week, with regular at $3.85 a gallon.

Does anyone have a copy of this?

I might add that neither of those two twits - Pelosi or Schumer - has paid for a tank of gasoline out-of-pocket in over twenty years!

"Bush lays gas blame on Congress"

Appropriate. And speaking of lay - Pelosi is a lame one.

I only listened to part of the PC yesterday, but had to laugh when the NYT reporterette said something along the lines of “Well Mr President, drilling in ANWAR and building refineries is a LONG TERM solution...what are your short term solutions?”

Drilling in ANWAR and building refineries, if begun years ago as proposed, would no longer be long term solutions...they’d be here already.

I wish Bush would have said “you know, it’s kind of disingenuous to block all my long term proposals and then sit here and ask me what MY short-term solutions are...long-term problems deserve long-term solutions and planning. Short term or stop gap solutions to long term problems are not optimal, and in most cases are probably detrimental”.

That's all well and good; however, I didn't see or hear our president (or our vice-president) mount the bully pulpit to bring the issue to the American people. We should be drilling like crazy, but thanks to the inactivity and stupidity with ethanol we are no doubt light years behind schedule.

Oil off the southeast coast of Florida is being drilled by the Chinese. Our oil is actually being pumped due to the slant between Florida and Cuba.

The 'Pristine' reserve is another joke.

Oil producing companies, like every other American company, is so overregulated by the goons in DC that no new refineries have been built for years.

Our president should have done much more.

It is time to make the connection in the voters’ minds between Enviro-Weenie-ism and high energy prices. Every time an Enviro-Weenie comes around spouting off about this-or-that, we need the voters to feel the hand reaching for their wallets.

Well, IMNTBHO, I would say its 85% democrats (and their fellow travelers in the envior-weenie movement, as well as the NIMBY and LODI crowds) And at least 15% the Administration in not having a coherent, forward looking energy policy beyond “lets drill more”.

Had we supported our coal-oil and shale oil industries in the 70’s and 80'2, instead of letting them die when opec flooded the oil market in the mid 80’s. we would not be in this position of watching, unable to react, while we are held hostage to the whims and vagaries of the world oil suppliers.

The demo/socialists have a lot to answer for but so do the pubbies. Republicans trying to buy votes in the farm belt have been for years and years pimping ethonal. Even yesterday Pres. Bush said we should incerase production. It doesn’t help gas prices and is killing us on the food prices.

The ‘Pristine’ reserve is another joke.

So right....Use “Google Earth” and take a look at the “pristine” north coastal region of ANWR where the drilling should be going on today....”Pristine” is a joke...it is barren rock snow and ice except for a short time in summer when it is short grasses...flat as a billiard table and not even a two foot high “shrub” exists...

Enviro-Weenie-ism and high energy prices

I've been reading up on the Globull Warming issue. Most of the 1 degree rise took place before 1940. Temperatures cooled from 1940 to 1979. The envro-weenies say that anthropogenic warming was still happening, but other pollution (sulpher) was causing a greater cooling, effectively "masking" the warming.

Antarctic sea ice last year had the greatest extent in recorded history. This causes heartburn among Warmists. They are now saying that warming was taking place all along, but the hole in the ozone layer caused unnatural cooling that in effect masks the global warming in the antarctic. The article I read said that this trend will reverse soon as the ozone hole closes up due to our banning aerosols.

In other words, taking their statements at face value, if we had just continued expanding the use of coal-fired power plants and kept freon as a coolant THERE WOULD BE NO GLOBULL WARMING. Their polution "remedies" caused it in the first place. Why should we trust their solutions now?

There has been a slight cooling since 2000. If they are right that greenhouse gasses warm the earth, then they will only accelerate this cooling by reducing them. With the sunspot minimum persisting. They may actually cause a new iceage to begin early, costing millions of lives

Short-term, all we need to do is announce dozens of new refineries will be built, Nuclear power plants are in the works, drilling off our coast will begin promptly---and the price of crude would drop significantly overnight.

JUST DO IT YA MORONS!

Hm....well the Dems in Congress have raised the gas tax and refused to let us drill anywhere - so I’d say the president is right on in this one.
