Italy: Right-wing women the most beautiful, claims Berlusconi

Women on the political right are the best looking, conservative opposition leader and election frontrunner Silvio Berlusconi said on an Italian radio show.

"The women of the right are certainly the most beautiful," Berlusconi said on Radio Anch'io public radio, quoted Wednesday by Corriere della Sera newspaper.

Media tycoon Berlusconi is known for his 'politically incorrect' comments concerning women. He has described TV showgirls as "useful for something else," and has referred to older women politicians as the "menopause section".

Referring to Daniela Santanche, leader of Italy's nationalist La Destra party, Berlusconi was quoted as saying: "Whoever votes for Santanche because she's a knock-out is giving their vote to someone who certainly isn't - Walter Veltroni."

Veltroni, the former mayor of Rome, is the leader of the centre-right Democratic Party - Berlusconi's main opponent in Sunday and and Monday's parliamentary elections.

"Berlusconi may only be joining. But jokes, especially when they show a repeated and denigrating conception of women, reveal a lot about the person making them," commented Italy's youth and sports minister Giovanna Melandri, cited by Corriere della Sera.

Berlusconi last month famously told a young woman who asked him what could be done about a lack of job security in Italy: "Marry my son or someone like him - with your smile this certainly won't be a problem!"

Berlusconi's comments, made on the public TV show 'Viewpoints', caused widespread outrage in Italy, especially among the centre-left and the left.

In January last year, Berlusconi was forced to issue a written apology to his wife, Veronica Lario, after she wrote an open letter to leftwing daily La Repubblica demanding he do so for his flirtations with other women.

Lario was reacting to comments that Berlusconi reportedly made during a VIP party after a TV awards show screened by one of his private Mediaset channels.

"If I weren't married, I would marry you immediately," the 70-year-old Berlusconi told one woman, according to comments widely reported in the Italian press.

"With you, I'd go anywhere," Berlusconi reportedly told another woman at the party.

Berlusconi has a close political association with striking 40-year-old redhead and ex-beauty queen Michela Vittoria Brambilla. She has been tipped by some observers as his successor to the lead the People of Freedom party.

Just an opinion but as a conservative lady, there is not any doubt Michela Vittoria Brambilla is beautiful, but she needs to tone down the way in which she dresses. There is such a thing as class.

Class? What about Daniela Santanchè?

The most beautiful women I saw in the 70’s were Italian.

Daniela Bianchi was a right-winger. I just know it.

Throw a garter belt on her, and she’d own me. As it is, she could probably rent me pretty cheap.

Dab some “gravy” behind her ears, and I’d probably give her my house.

Aura of availability trumps class every time. To paraphrase Willie Moretti, “She look[s] like she’d be fun to know!”.

I think she’s very classy. I would love to spend a week talking politics with her. The perfect setting for this political summit would be a waterfront villa on lake como, room service, with a cd changer full of Puccini and Verdi.
Classy.

There are a few token attractive liberal women though—Lis Wiehl for instance... Italian women just need to learn to shave, they’re too much too often like their sisters in France....

Her skirt slid up a bit, I doubt it was intentional. At least she isn’t wearing a pant suit like hillary.

It is very disturbing to see all the focus on looks in FR. It smacks of the immature superficiality of Hollywood. There would probably be way more in our corner if we didn’t find it so funny to judge by people’s looks, especially the women. And most here profess to be Christians. People don’t get to pick what they look like. We say how bad abortion is, then act like unattractive people don’t deserve to live. Some of the lefties have every right to be angry because of how they are treated. Better we should focus on the fact that we are SMARTER!! I have a close relative born with a facial deformity; I would hate to see her grow up to be a liberal because of cruel remarks and attitudes from right wingers.

There are womanly suits suitable for the most beautiful of women. My business suits cost anywhere from 500 to a 1,000 dollars because I refuse to look like a man. God made me a woman, therefore, the appropriate way to dress is like a woman with class.

Sorry, from the way I wrote that it sounds as if I were taking a shot a pantsuits. Just saying I much prefer the way she dresses to the way Hillary does. Poor wording

Berlusconi's comments, made on the public TV show 'Viewpoints', caused widespread outrage in Italy, especially among the centre-left and the left ugly dog-faced hogbodies of the left.

There, fixed it.
