I hope there are a lot more diesels around when it’s time for me to get a new car in couple years. This V8 is killing me right now.

The question is: will we get it in the U.S.? There are all kinds of great new diesel engines around the world, but our stupid NOx rules are preventing most of them from ever getting here. Sure, the NOx can be treated, but it costs too much, and makes it impractical to bring small diesels here.

The NOx rules need to be revisited TODAY, and CARB needs to be eliminated.

The R engine is targeted to meet Euro 5 and 6 exhaust emissions standards.

I could not tell if they have plans to import to the U.S. Do you know?

two-stage turbocharged diesel engine

I wish that they would have mentioned what the effective compression ratio was for this engine. With a two-stage turbocharger it must be enormous.

The stresses on the engine would require some fantastic materials. Normally aspirated diesels have to be ruggedly build but this one is daring to be two-stage turbocharged and light weight.

All that technology is great, but here’s betting they’ll look ugly as sin-— unless the Koreans wise up and hire a western design firm.
