CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez is sending 10 battalions of troops to country's border with Colombia.
He's also ordered the Venezuelan embassy in Bogota closed and say all embassy personnel will be withdrawn from Colombia.
The announcements by Venezuela's leftist leader pushed relations with its neighbor to their tensest point of his 9-year presidency.
Chavez is also warning that Colombia could spark a war in South America, calling its U.S.-allied government "a terrorist state" and labeling President Alvaro Uribe (oo-REE'-bay) "a criminal."
Wow. By quick count that makes 668 targets.
You overstate the threat. I think maybe we should just send TEXAS and be done with the matter. It won't take long.

I actually live and work in Colombia. Understandably this makes me a little nervous.

So...how much they are willing to pay. So I can go to my local gas station and negotiate a lower price for my gas? Sorry, but even when consumption is relatively steady, any change in world events seems to trigger a sharp rise in the prices even when those events are unlikely to affect supply or would have a negligible effect on supply.

Especially since an ever increasing portion of our economy and military are dependent upon supply from countries that China could interdict or intimidate.
You may be able to make this statement regarding most other consumables, but not with oil and gasoline. It is not a matter of whether the product is "valuable" to the consumer. It is a matter of the product is vital to the consumer. You go ahead and try and make it through a day, week, month, or year without purchasing that which is required to either move people, goods, or services and see what happens. Everything would come to a standstill without petroleum, and the oil companies know this. They know that despite whatever artificially inflated price they come up with consumers will HAVE TO BUY fuel. The oil companies also are pretty savy in the artificial price hikes. They raise them to a point just shy of where consumers will begin to revolt, and then drop them a bit for a while. Then, start the process all over again. They've been doing this since the late 1990's as they've factored into their profit margins that consumers will cry, but not do anything different as long as they engage in this practice at a slow pace. It's like placing a frog into a boiling pot of water versus putting a frog into a pot of cold water and slowly raising the temperature. The frog dropped into the boiling water will attempt to get out. The frog in the water that is slowly raised to a boil will do nothing and eventually be boiled to death.
...as if the registered users on this site are going to make any difference in the November elections.

There is a price, whether it's $110 or $150 per bbl, where it IS cheaper just to invade an oil dictatorship and run the place ourselves. It's simple economics. If you are an oil dictator, bent on making money, make sure you don't rachet the price up to that unknown number.

Hell, at least McCain backs Israel’s basic right to bomb a nuke facility in Syria. Obama can’t even get himself to admit that Syria was even building a nuke facility. Yet he takes the suspect NIE about Iran's lack of nukes seriously and without question.
I’m not a McCain supporter by nature, but have you heard what Obama talks about in his speeches and during debates? My hope is that you will woof about McCain, but once the curtain closes, you know that you have no other realistic choice.
