Mississippi is a nanny state on steroids. Ironic since its suposed to be a very “Republican” state. Over 60% of their counties are dry.
Sounds southern baptist nanny staters to me. Not republican.
This was predicted years ago by Rush and others during the height of the tobacco lawsuits.
It’s not a conservative state. It’s a religious one. Flame if you want but as of the last few years, there’s a BIG difference. The religious right (not all but many) has taken a “Big Government for Jesus” path and that includes legislation to protect our temple, i.e., the body, through government mandate...
Oh for goodness sake, the bill will never pass in this state. We can still smoke in restaurants here, in the smoking area. As far as the dry counties, that’s at the local government level, it’s mostly a religious issue, and that’s almost as “small government” as you can get. If a majority of Baptists in a majority Baptist county want to ban booze in their own county, let ‘em. Everybody just goes a few miles to the next county.
Republican and Socailly Conservative are not the same thing. Most of those "republicans" would have been democrats 40 years ago.
