They have so much natural gas at present they are capping wells because they cannot export it all profitably.

False. Canadian Natural Gas fields are being depleted. The amount of Natural Gas we import from Canada has been declining and will continue to decline. It is why we are building LNG terminals in the US to import more Natural Gas from places like Qatar and Russia.

What I was told, when I was in Alberta last summer, which makes this anecdotal, is that the cost of getting the natural gas out of the ground is going up. it is not so much depleted as more difficult and therefore more expensive. This cost factor makes it unprofitable at present so they are capping some wells until the price goes up.

It is the oil industry in Alberta that is booming, particularly the tar sands.
