I always found it fascinating that the B-17 (1935) was approved by congress as a coastal defense weapon. Next to the the Jeep and the M1 Garand, it was the weapon that beat the Axis.

I believe that American industrial might was the weapon that beat the Axis, along with the leadership of the Axis leaders, of course.

Second thought, it is not a weapon but still very important.
