Volume of water necessary to raise sea-level 20-feet: ~6 x 1024m3

I don't understand where that number comes from, or does it mean anything?

how ironic this article just came out. About two weeks ago I myself was trying to figure out how much snow and ice would be required to raise sea levels 20 feet considering about 70% of the earth's surface is covered in water. I forgot what the answer was that I came up with and I'll be darned if I'm going to try to figure it out again.

I've read this article two times now and still can't figure out the numbers...........

So I guess my question is: Is there enough snow and ice at the north and south poles and in the mountains to actually raise our sea levels 20 feet?

I have one other question: From my limited knowlege of ice and water, The volume of displaced water taken up by floating ice would merely fill up with the water from the ice as it melts wouldn't it?

Just like a glass filled to the top with ice and water, once all the ice melts, the walter level would still remain at the top of the glass. Is that correct?

And if that is correct then the only snow and ice melt that would affect the sea levels would have to come from the ice and snow that is not floating in the seas already.

This is an interesting although convoluted article. It seems to prove definitely that the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf didn’t really crack, and the polar ice caps are not melting near as fast as the Nasa photos show. Nice to know there is a mathematical formula which proves we aren’t really seeing what we are seeing. Let’s face it, we don’t really no for sure what is going on here. One extremist (like the author) is no better than another (like Gore). I am going to keep an eye on the ice caps just in case reality doesn’t equate with this guys theories.
