Rep. Doolittle to announce retirement from Congress

WASHINGTON—Republican Rep. John Doolittle, who is under investigation in a congressional lobbying scandal, plans to announce Thursday that he'll retire from Congress at the end of his current term, according to a Republican official who spoke with Doolittle.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity pending a public announcement in Doolittle's Northern California district.

He planned to address supporters in Roseville, Calif., on Thursday morning and scheduled a press conference for afterward. His aides declined to disclose his plans in advance.

These are definitely tough times for the conservative base. We must hold on and get through this mess. It seems like we are going through a house cleaning, and the mess gets worse before it gets better.

All of Congress are “Dolittles.”

And most should feel the need for a shower.

Most rats are busy bodies trying to control our lives. We would be better off if they were do-littles.

I wish they were “dolittles” instead of finding more ways to spend our money.

It’s a safe GOP seat that only became vulnerable because of the Doolittle scandal. We’ll hold it easily now.

Given how much Charlie Brown has raised, he has a shot. Also, the Republican primary could get nasty. So it’s not safe yet.

President Bush got 61% in the district in 2004. Absent scandal, we will not lose the seat no matter how much the Democrats spend there-—personally, I hope the Democrats spend their last dime there and not in districts that are actually competitive.

Of course, we need to make sure that we don’t nominate a scandal-prone candidate.
