CASPER, Wyo. — Mitt Romney grabbed the early lead in Wyoming’s Republican caucuses Saturday as the state had its brief moment in the political spotlight sandwiched between attention-getting contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.

The former Massachusetts governor gained the first four delegates while California Rep. Duncan Hunter won a fifth.

Romney easily led the overall vote with more than 50 percent. Hunter was second with 21 percent and Fred Thompson, who hadn’t won any delegates, was third with 17 percent. Results were expected throughout the day.

How come you only post this list now? It should be posted again, and often. I’m not sold yet, but I think he’s my 2nd choice after Fred.

If a candidate can’t effectively raise $$$ to run a strong campaign, why should we vote for him?

Ummm...because of their principles?

You know . . . you’re right. Money is playing a decisive role in the nomination.

You know something else? Everyone had the same chance to build a national fund raising network over a period of years and relentlessly focus hard work and long hours to the task of victory.

Everyone had this chance.

Not everyone was tough enough, or had a sufficiently strong work ethic, or was simply smart enough, to do it. Some kicked back and mused over whether or not to run. Some decided to run and talked it over with their friends and did essentially nothing more, and never spent time building a nationwide array of support.

To then try to transform an absence of desire into something admirable — trying to contrast it with the hard workers and make a case that by doing nothing you show yourself absent a hunger for power — that’s an after-the-fact excuse for failure to work. But forget even this spin. The fact is some worked hard and some did not.

Spending a year or two on airplanes trying to sleep in strange beds in hotels in order to visit with people who may not care what you have to say is very hard work. Don’t disparage those who did it to raise the money to win.

Great rationale. You’d rather see the liberals Hildebeast or Obama elected just to give you the satisfaction of not voting for Romney.

“I have a buddy out there who is probably the most conservative guy you could ever meet. He just loves Romney.”

Smart guy. That makes two of the most conservative guys you could ever meet.

On You-Tube in a clip Romney says he would protect a woman's right to choose. On You-tube Romney says he would protect the (anti) gun laws. On You-tube, Romney essentially says he would run to the left of Kennedy.

So we are supposed to focus instead on an obscure brochure which went (perhaps) to more conservative areas? Give me a break!

Romney gets no free pass from me for pandering to liberal constituencies to win a Massachusetts office. According to what he said and did (giving to Planned Parenthood, not vetoing a provision for $50 copay on abortions, and reserving a seat on the medical commission for Planned Parenthood) it wasn't just pandering. Looks like it was what he believed was right.

Note also that several ex-aides and Massachusetts Republicans are working for Guiliani saying that they could not trust Romney. They report that he often changed his mind unpredictably on a dime.

NO SALE.

Sure. His principles are so good nobody wants to donate to his campaign? I’ve got great principles, but it doesn’t mean I can get elected, does it?

I want a guy who has principles and who can show he has what it takes to lead. If a guy can’t raise $$$ to run a campaign, how well is he going to lead?

Nod. These primaries are the trial by fire. Whoever emerges will be admired by those who opposed him because we are all focused and know the obstacles being fought through.

I think it will be Romney. It may not be. We’ll see. If it is, I won’t have any trouble supporting him to deny the Democrats total control of the USSC nomination process (that will GUARANTEE abortion for the rest of our lives) and having at least some chance to maintain the Bush tax cuts, as well as keeping mushroom clouds off US cities.

See? That is a Thompson phrase. I have no doubt whatsoever Romney will do a better job of preventing that then Hillary or Obama.

So far, he is on your boys tail.

It has been posted numerous times, but many on FR don’t like being confused with facts. It screws up their personal world view of things.

President Bush was a question mark to me since Bush 41 was a disappointment. I voted for him once with reservations about several of his positions. I don't want control from the Feds in education, for example. The second time the 'war on terror' was my main concern. Dubya has been a disappointment in several areas, and I would not vote for him again if it were possible. This is due to his failings on immigration (another of Romney's flip-flops), Harriet Miers, and so-called assault weapons.

So the gist is-- I know more about Romney than Dubya at the same point in the 2008 campaign vs the 2000 campaign. I am not swallowing the Romney koolaid.

...the only exception being the pledge to maintain the status quo in Massachusetts regarding a woman's right to choose.

Kind of a big one there, wholesale infanticide.

But he was not about to let something like that prevent him from ascending to power.

If you gain the whole world but lose your soul, what have you?
