Matthews: 'Conservative Gut But Liberal Beliefs Because I've Thought Things Through'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Any man who is under 30 and is not a liberal has no heart; and any man who is over 30 and not a conservative has no brains. - Winston Churchill

I guess we know what old Winston would think of Chris Matthews, then. Appearing on Morning Joe today, the Hardball host turned the Churchillian maxim upside down, claiming his gut leans right but his head pulls him left.

The original Quote:
A man who is not a liberal at sixteen has no heart; a man who is not a conservative at sixty has no head. -Benjamin Disraeli

Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, KG, PC, FRS (born Benjamin D’Israeli; 21 December 1804–19 April 1881) was a British Conservative statesman and literary figure. He served in government for three decades, twice as Prime Minister—the first and thus far only person of Jewish parentage to do so (although Disraeli was baptised in the Anglican Church at 13). Disraeli’s most lasting achievement was the creation of the modern Conservative Party after the Corn Laws schism of 1846.

I’m under 30 and Conservative. I guess I don’t have a heart.

There's a punchline in there....I'm going to let it slide this time, in the spirit of the season ;-)

“Any man who is under 30 and is not a liberal has no heart; and any man who is over 30 and not a conservative has no brains. - Winston Churchill”

Horse$hit, Winny.

I despise that quote, and doubt that it is truly taken from Churchill. In his day, the true meaning of “liberal” was still being used: “liberal” actually meant what we today call conservatism..

In any case, true rock-ribbed conservatism at is very foundation, displays infinitely more “heart” than liberalism or its wimpy cousin, “compassionate conservatism”.

So Winston has another new data point to prove that he was correct.

Given that Matthews is an idiot who panders for liberals -— he has no brain and no heart, so Churchill’s maxim still stands.

Succinct. Accurate.

Classic.

Of course human nature is the other way around. Liberal instincts (feed starving people, protect children) but you become conservative when you think it through.

Removing any lingering doubts (as if there were any) that Matthews is a pandering moronic pimp for the Democrats. And a nitwit.

This is interesting...found it at ask Google. Source links included. It appears that this sentiment has a French pedigree.

“Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains."

“While the sentiment is certainly astute and wise, the saying did not originate with Churchill. In fact, that wording is a variation of, "The man who is not a socialist at twenty has no heart, but if he is still a socialist at forty he has no head”, which belongs to the former French Prime Minister Aristide Briand, who was himself a recovered socialist.

Briand, however, appears to have cribbed the saying from another French statesman, Francois Guizot (1787–1874), who originally said, “Not to be a republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head.”

www.evangelicaloutpost.com/archives/000700.html

"If a man is not a socialist in his youth, he has no heart. If he is not a conservative by the time he is 30 he has no head" -- Georges Clemenceau, Former French Prime Minister and one-time radical. (There are many versions of this saying and many attributions of it but the original utterance seems to have been by mid-nineteenth century French historian and politician Francois Guizot, who said: "Not to be a republican at 20 is proof of want of heart; to be one at 30 is proof of want of head". He was referring to the controversy over whether France should be a republic or a monarchy. “

Poor man, most of his brain has died. Only the parts used by monkeys to play with their poo, dogs to eat their vomit, criminals to steal, and Marxists to endorse socialism remain. His conservative ‘gut’ is probably the bacteria (of superior intelligence) in his digestive tract mounting a revolt against their zombified host.

Remember, all the Strawman got was a diploma. He didn’t get a brain. I think Chrissy fits the same category.

This BS again, “Liberals are smart because they’ve thought things through...”.

There are countless “studies” to push this partisan lie.

Political correctness demands that you not question the evidence or conclusion, the damned intellectuals have already determined the “truth”.

Any man who is under 30 and is not a liberal has no heart; and any man who is over 30 and not a conservative has no brains. - Winston Churchill

I see Chris Matthews's delusions have now reached the depth of comparing his observations with the wisdom expressed by Winston Churchill's observation?

If Matthews was any more liberal you’d think he had no gut left. It’s called “gutless” Chris. Look it up.

I’m under 30 and Conservative. I guess I don’t have a heart.

I would take from Mark Twain’s observation to explain your conundrum. Any man who is over 30 and not a conservative doesn't know enough. Any man who is under 30 and is a conservative knows too much.

The only thing right leaning about Matthews’ gut would be those instances where the buffet table is to his left.

Rimshot.

Thank you. I’ll be here all week. Try the fish.
