I’m no Romney fan, but it’s totally believable to me that he simply and sincerely misremembered.

How could he ‘misremember’ himself marching with MLK?

I think you would remember if you were at a history making event or not. I, for example, was not there when the Berlin Wall fell

He went a lifetime with out saying it, even in 1994 when he was taking a beating for his Church’s racial teachings before 1978, he never mentioned it.

Like so many Romney lies this is a new one, special to the 2008 race.

Do you think the “NRA endorsement” was innocent as well, or the lifetime hunter, or the “ I am a gun owner” lie and the so many other self serving mis-truths?

BibChr, I agree with you. How old was Mitt when the march occured? I can imagine a child mixing up memories like this. He was proud of his father and he had a fun and exciting moment with him while marching for a good cause. Having had MLK there at the same approximate time, in a childs mind, I can see this getting mushed together.

I don't see this as habitual lying. It should be easily seen as a simple mistake.

I was in about the 8th or 9th grade in Michigan at the time, but I still remember George Romney as very involved in civil rights and seeing the Detroit marches on television. I don’t think Romney was being devious. He was also young at the time (and over in France) and most likely didn’t really remember the exact events, dates and times.
