Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"
The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The authoritative Encyclopedia of Mormonism, published in 1992, does not refer to Jesus and Satan as brothers. It speaks of Jesus as the son of God and of Satan as a fallen angel, which is a Biblical account.
A spokeswoman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Huckabee's question is usually raised by those who wish to smear the Mormon faith rather than clarify doctrine.
"We believe, as other Christians believe and as Paul wrote, that God is the father of all," said the spokeswoman, Kim Farah. "That means that all beings were created by God and are his spirit children. Christ, on the other hand, was the only begotten in the flesh and we worship him as the son of God and the savior of mankind. Satan is the exact opposite of who Christ is and what he stands for."
Romney did not respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this month in Iowa, Huckabee wouldn't say whether he thought Mormonism rival Romney's religion was a cult.
"I'm just not going to go off into evaluating other people's doctrines and faiths. I think that is absolutely not a role for a president," the former Arkansas governor said.

BTW, I could be wrong, but as far as I know, mormons do not believe in the holy trinity as catholics do. Jesus is god’s kid, and the holy spirit is god’s drinking buddy. And satan is the bully that used to beat up god’s kid. And for that god sent satan to hell for eternity. See, jesus is his only REAL kid. THe rest of us are his step kids. And some of us are his red headed step kids.(try not to be one of those or you end up in the same place as satan)
This is my lame brain simple version of what I understand the truth to be as the mormons see it. I don’t know where huckster got the idea that satan was jesus’s brother. But huckster’s version of the mormon doctrine sounds just as good as mine.(to me at least)
Maybe a mormon can respond to my statements here and set both me and huckster straight.
NOw, before all the evangelical types get too superior on this thread, I’d like to point out that the catholic version of the holy trinity is, in my opinion, just as nuts as huckster’s account of the mormon belief of jesus and satan being brothers. Actually, if you think long and hard about it, the three in one thing might even be more nuts. At least, my simple mind can UNDERSTAND the drinking buddy, the kid, and the bully concept. I can’t, however, make heads or tails of the three in one thing.
“This is the last thing the Party needs for its most loyal constituency (prob. 90 percent Republican).”
I would like to see those national figures for the Mormon vote, I’m not buying 90%.
Silly Huk. The core difference between Christians and Mormons has nothing to do with Satan. The core question is, is Jesus, or is He not ONE with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Is God a Trinity? Who cares about Satan.
At this point I’d be happy with Hunter, Tancredo or Thompson, grudgingly support Romney or (shudder) McCain, and probably not support Giuliani, Paul or Huckabee.
Just what in the hell is that supposed to mean?
To write this for a NYT article is way low, why the heck would he ask such a question in a newspaper article that he could find the answer to in no time elsewhere? If he does this, it will be his fall, I hope he does. When I cool off I will read the rest of the article.

“The Rats are loving his rise in the polls.”
The Rats are behind his rise in the polls. It’s wall-to-wall Huckabee love on all the major networks. Meanwhile, they miss no opportunity to slam Romney. Tonight on Wolf Blitzer Gloria Borger, Jack Cafferty, and that Democrat lawyer who they call upon as a commentator, were ridiculing Romney and his endorsement by National Review. I find that very interesting.
Don’t the Mormons teach that Satan is one of the spirit children of God and His wife? And since Jesus is a son of God (literally, in Mormon theology), they would be spirit brothers, wouldn’t they?
So do I. I still remember sitting on the bed, crying, that our country had elected that lying peanut farmer.
I claim Jesus as Savior, as does he.
Thankfully, Jesus knows our hearts, not just our politics.
Jesus Juice is wine.
I think. According to Micheal Jackson...
No idea, since I’ve never studied the Mormon faith.
I was so ashamed to be American while carter was present,it was palpable. So happy to see Reagan elected. What a contrast.
Huckabee is a former broadcaster himself. He has ingratiated himself with the big media herd. He's kind of like this cycle's McCain the reporter's buddy.
I think 1200 if the thread doesn’t get pulled.

Huckabee’s an ass.
How is this relevant to the office of the President?
Huck’s question for Arlen Specter:
Didn’t Jews murder God’s only son?
His question for Rudy:
Isn’t Catholicism really a Satanic cult full of pagan images and customs?
His question for McCain:
Don’t you know that if you don’t turn your life over to Jesus, you’ll be damned like all those drowned New Orleaneans?
Huck is a bigot.
In Mormonism, Jesus is also seen as the brother of Satan. Since Satan was also a preexistent spirit creation of the male and female earth gods, Christ must therefore be considered his relation. In other words, Christ and the devil are "blood" brothers. If the devil and his demons were all spirit children of the Mormon earth god "Elohim", it must follow that they too are Jesus' brothers, just as they are the brothers of all men. As one Mormon writer states, "As for the devil and his fellow spirits, they are brothers to man and also to Jesus and sons and daughters to God in the same sense that we are." It scares me but if the choice were Hillary versus Huck, I might go for Hillary.
I need an intervention!
