Nebraska welcomes home its vets

On August 10, 2007, two bus loads of National Guard soldiers arrived back in Kearney, Nebraska, after being in Iraq for a little over a year. The town of Kearney went all out (for a small town) to welcome them back. There was a parade (including all the town's fire trucks), the town was decorated, and, in general, they showed these soldiers a heartfelt welcome home, and a big thanks for doing their job. You won't see this on TV as most of the media wants us to believe there is no support. They, as usual, are dead wrong.

That was a real treat, FRiend. And a tear jerker too. Thank you.
I almost couldn’t breathe, was crying so much...

So proud of the cornhuskers. So proud of our awesome soldiers.

Nebraska, home of my ancestors and many cousins.

The really sad part about this is that we live about 40 miles from Kearney, and I don’t remember hearing anything about this. Glad to see that the good folks in Kearney were on the ball and did it up right.

That gives me something to look forward to when I come back. We’ve at least gotten a delay and will get to spend Christmas with our families before going over.

I'm glad for you that you're getting to spend the holidays at home, and very proud of you that you are serving. You're in good company, and will be in our hearts and prayers for the next year - or however long it takes to get the job done.

Born in Nebraska and lived in Kearney for a while as an adult. These people are what American is really all about. It should be mandatory that all members of the House and Senate in DC see this - also it should be shown on every TV screen in San Francisco over and over and over.

Born in Nebraska. Returned to Kearney to work for a brief time as an adult. This area once again shows what America is really all about!!! Let Freedom ring and let us ever be proud of those that defend us.

Marine Lance Corporal Steven Schulz was seriously injured in Iraq. Before he was injured and almost killed Steven was in to driving his Subaru WRX. After his injuries he could no longer drive. One day a a friend let Steven drive an old beat up golf cart and Steven loved it. So what did we do after Steven's dad told us about Steven and the old golf cart? What happend last year on a cold and rainy Christmas day? See the answer here:

Hi Grams A, welcome to Free Republic. I would like to go back and visit Nebraska again. I agree with you: they are showing how it’s done.

More people should see this thread and the slide show, so giving it another Bump.
