Confirmed: Larry Craig To Resign Tomorrow, Lt. Gov. Jim Risch to be Named to Senate
The Cleveland Leader ^ | August 31, 2007

NBC has reported that Larry Craig will resign tomorrow in the midst of his sex scandal. The resignation will be effective September 30th according to reports from GOP officials from Idaho. Lieutenant Gov. Jim Risch is said to be appointed to the Senate by Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter.

Craig was stripped of powerful leadership positions from leaders in Washington and tried in vain to gain backing to keep his seat in the Senate leading to his resignation announcement tomorrow.

Lt. Gov. Jim Risch was elected to his post earlier this year after he served a stint as the Governor of Idaho. He has been in statewide office since 2003 as both Lt. Governor and Governor. He had been rumoured to be the number one candidate to replace Craig since the scandal broke earlier this week.

It’s interesting that the Craig story came out just at the time the “fugitive who funded Hillary’s campaign” story broke.

Call me cynical but ya think they were trying to divert attention away from the Hildabeast’s problems?

Wow. It’s a free ride to the senate for the Lt. Gov. You say he’s going to be good? Glad to hear it.

I saw a post from an Idaho freeper (don’t remember who) that the Lt. Gov. would be a good choice.

What is his stance on illegal immigration?

Speaking of stance... has anyone taken a tape measure to his?

(just kidding about that last one. I think.)

Speaking of stance... has anyone taken a tape measure to his? Heh heh heh... great point. Any stance greater that stall width is automatically disqualified.

How can this be a sex scandal if no sex was involved?

How can Risch have an ACU rating ? He’s never served in Congress.

ACU ratings
Craig: 93.4

Good evidence of how deceptive those manufactured ratings can be!

So much for the benefits of recruiting inhering to the naive recruit, I guess.

The queers on the other side are having the biggest celebration of all as they have known all along that shame only applies to those who still respect the concept.

I know here in Idaho he has opposed tax payer incentives for illegal aliens and their children...unlike Craig.

From December last year, when he was Governor:

Gov. Jim Risch ordered state agencies Wednesday to stop hiring illegal aliens by using a federal Web site to verify that new employees are eligible to work in the U.S.

The outgoing Republican governor wants local governments and private businesses to also use the voluntary and free screening system as a way to crack down on undocumented immigrants who are taking jobs and benefits away from legal residents.

“Idahoans deserve to have their tax dollars spent on legal, United States citizens,” Risch said in announcing the executive order in Coeur d’Alene. “Jobs available in America and Idaho should be preserved for those who are legal.”

The order also requires vendors or companies that do contract work for the state to use the verification system. In addition, Risch wants the Department of Commerce and Labor and the Department of Health and Welfare to use the system to ensure that unemployment and welfare benefits aren’t going to illegal immigrants.

Idaho is the fifth state in the nation to use the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program. Colorado is the only other western state.

Overall Risch is a good choice. He took the Governor spot when Kempthorne went to Sec Interior. He stated he was only staying till elections and when election time came he was true to his word and didn’t seek to stay in office.

Not sure unfortunately where he stands on immigration, but as far as anything else goes he’s been a straight shooter (yes pun intended)
