Huh? Don’t worry, I can’t debate scientology in this context, because I haven’t the slightest idea what you are talking about, or the point of this article. When I clicked on it, I thought it was an article about a possible homicide scandal in psych hospitals, but in reality it appeared to be some kind of rant against meds.

I’ve known some schizophrenics, and there is something truly wrong there.

But I haven’t met any schizo 8 year olds.

Quite simply, there is no such thing as a psychiatric disorder/disease/chemical imbalance.

I stopped reading right there.

This guy's an anti-psychiatry/psychology zealot and a nutbar.

There is no proof of a microscopic or chemical abnormality of the brain (during life or at autopsy) making it a brain disease or disorder.

And testing for chronic Lyme is very difficult, yet it exists and can cause neurological trouble, mimic schizophrenia and so on.

Go to www.ctlymedisease.org, and look for the video by a Dr Raxlen. He's a shrink, and has found that he has to test every patient first for Lymes. If they have it, and fix it, the neurological symptoms go away.

I read once the comment "The biggest advance in psychiatry was the invention of penicillin, it got all the syphilis sufferers out of the madhouse." Lyme is caused by a spirochete, just like syphilis, and can slowly cause madness. And there are a lot of other spirochetes out there.

Dr Paul Ewald has a article somewhere on the web about the "Evolution of Infectious Disease", or some similar title. From the evolutionary point of view, madness should breed out if it were genetic. It acts like it is infectious.

That said, only pushing valium and prozac is not exactly the Dr Welby or Dr House approach we've come to expect of the medical profession.

_____________

So I guess I can tell my bipolar mother that she need not be on the meds that keep her out of the mental health facilities that we have had to twice commit her to when she went off those meds.

And I’m pretty sure that the act of posting a thread does not entitle you to limit what is and is not discussed on the thread. You don’t ‘own’ the thread, only folks whose delusions of grandeur are currently untreated by meds think so (just a weak attempt at topical humor).

"These positron emission tomography (PET) scans are computer-generated images that show how the brain is functioning. Compare the brain activity in a healthy person (left) to that in a person with schizophrenia (right). The red area in the brain on the right shows intense activity by tiny particles with a positive electric charge, called positrons. NIH, Science Source/Photo Researchers, Inc."

Looks like pathology to me.

Why should I, since Scientology is exactly what you are pushing?

Macauley S, who was in his grandmother’s custody because his parents had drug problems, died ...

Macauley died because of the disintegration of his family and home life.

America hasn't even begun to address the damage caused by our modern, self-centered, acquisitive lives (not an exhaustive list), let alone lay out a course correction.

What would make you want to discuss the whacknut sceintologists on a thread like this? I see no reference to those losers in the article posted.

For future reference, if you want to be taken seriously, it’s probably best not to cite the works of a psycho nutcase scientologist (sorry for being redundant).

Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. If don’t want flak about scientology, stop posting their tracts.

This means deaths from methylphenidate/Ritalin are, more likely in the vicinity of 16,000 for 1990=1997 than 160.

Looking at the math here, I gotta question this stat. 16,000 deaths / 7 = 2285 deaths a year / 12 = 190 a month. I cannot for one moment believe that a medication is responsible for the deaths of over 2,000 people a year.
