NEW DELHI India's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned Australia's ambassador to convey its concern over that country's detention of an Indian doctor in connection with the recent terrorist attack on Glasgow International Airport and two failed car bombings in London.
The ministry conveyed to John McCarthy, Australia's high commissioner in New Delhi, the government's concern about the detention of Mohammed Haneef and urged that he be "treated fairly and justly under Australian law," ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said.
The move comes a day after the Australian government canceled Haneef's visa and invoked immigration laws to keep the 27-year-old doctor in detention, overriding a court order that granted him bail after he was charged on Saturday with recklessly providing resources to a terrorist organization.
What is the problem with the Indian govt.? They just just let this terrorist hang (and I mean this literally). Muslims, whether they are Indian or not, don’t deserve to be treated on par with civilized people (especially when their guilt is so very clear).
The current government depends on Muslim/Left support. They have to go through these motions or there will be hell in Parliament.
Something similar happened with regard to that Aussie Taliban who was extradited from Guantanamo to Australia, on request of the Australian government, because they feared he could be executed if subject to US laws. Or something on those lines. Look it up, I can’t recollect his name...
