This is not the victory everyone thinks it is. He still owes the tax. The jury only aquitted him of the criminal charges of willful failure to file. That is, the jury believed that he believed he did not have to file.. therefore it is not a crimianl case. But he still owes the tax.

So what did he win? Years of legal expenses... plus the tax. He would have been better off paying the tax to begin with.

As evil as it may be, you are never going to convince any branch of the government that you do not have to pay it. Every angle has been tried, and it has been a failure.

So you are saying the idea that there is no legal basis for citizens to pay income tax is a scam, and that theis lawyer, Cryer, foolishly bought into it and ruined his business?

Yep. and more.

This sets no precedent, since no issue was settled by court ruling.

In addition, the fact that the IRS offered literally no rebuttal or defense to his points means that there is something else here that is going on out of the public eye, but I do not have any idea what that would be.

He does make an interesting argument, though: That when you get paid for labor, not all of your income constitutes a profit. Profit is that money received that is over and above the worth of your labor. Never thought of that. In any case, I'm perfectly happy on this side of the prison walls...

“But he still owes the tax.”

The jury did not rule that in any way, did it?

I have no illusions about the courts finding the IRS or the tax codes illegal. They won’t. It’s their bread and butter, too, however illegal it may basically be. However, I admire folks like Mr. Cryer and his attorney who stand up to this tyrant organization, even at great cost to themselves. I guess a man’s gotta do what he’s gotta do, and be damned with the consequences. Fighting the IRS makes more sense to me than leaving accumulated wealth to LSU or the City of Shreveport, etc., or an unappreciative heir.

Not true, not true at all. Many cases have been won or withdrawn at the last minute by the IRS because the IRS knew they would lose. They just haven't been publicized just as this one will not be discussed in national media.

Now I understand your "reasoning".

If he has been acquitted of the charge, he does not owe the tax. Has any of t he alleged tax" been collected? How in the world is the IRS going to collect something a jury said he doesn't owe. No court is going to order it paid when he won his case.

So what did he win? Years of legal expenses... plus the tax. He would have been better off paying the tax to begin with.

You have no admiration for a man who actually stands on a well-founded principle?

don't have to convince the government; just a jury. Every angle has been a failure? Didn't you notice that this guy won. There will be many more to follow and I suggest that the IRS will not prosecute those who can read the documents in this case.

If this guy is smart, he will specialize in helping other people do what he did. After all, he’s already done all the research and tested his own strategies. The key is to make sure there’s always a jury trial.

Too bad the jury’s decision can’t be used again as a precedent. Each individual will have to convince them seperately.

It all starts with one man saying no. Morality, true morality sometimes has a cost that only the truly righteous are willing to pay.

From where do you assertain that he still owes the tax? Perhaps the IRS says he still owes the tax, but he's been to court and won. How will they go about getting the tax now? They have tried him in Federal Court and lost. Did the judge rule that he owes the tax? If not I don't see your point.
