India Seals Itself Off From Bangladesh
Examiner ^ | 6/25/07 | TIM SULLIVAN

SUJATPUR, Bangladesh (Map, News) - Everyone knew it was out there somewhere, an invisible line that cut through a cow pasture and, at least in theory, divided one nation from another. But no one saw it as a border - it was just a lumpy field of grass, uneven from the hooves of generations of cattle, and villagers crossed back and forth without even thinking about it. Today, no one can ignore the line.

In a construction project that will eventually reach across 2,050 miles, hundreds of rivers and long stretches of forests and fields, India has been quietly sealing itself off from Bangladesh, its much poorer neighbor. Sections totaling about 1,550 miles have been built the past seven years.

In Sujatpur, a poor farming village, the frontier is now defined by two rows of 10-foot-high barbed wire barriers, the posts studded with ugly spikes the size of a toddler's fingers. A smaller fence, and miles of barbed wire coils, fill the space in between. The expanse of steel, set into concrete, spills off toward the horizon in both directions.

"Before, it was like we were one country," said Mohammed Iqbal, a Bangladeshi farmer walking near the border on a windy afternoon. "I used to go over there just to pass the time."

A fence is practical, India built 1550 miles, 2050 miles at completion.

Years ago Pakistan was made up of East and West Pakistan. After a civil war East Pakistan broke away to become Bengla Desh.

During the course of the war India allowed about 10 million refugees to come to India from East Pakistan.

After the war India deported all the refugees back to their homes.

Our problem with the illegal aliens is pretty much on the same scale. If poor India could do it, why can't rich America, and certainly in a more humane manner.

I tell you, we got a once in a millenium opportunity to pick up the smartest people in India right now with a rational immigration policy. Instead our politicians are focused on the idea of importing tens of millions of nearly illiterate and generally uneducated folks from the bottom of the Mexican heap.

We need some folks who know how to make fences work and how to deport people Fur Shur. We'd be better off with a Senate made up of the first 100 names in the Mumbai Chamber of Commerce phone directory.

It is the friendly Islamsist that are causing India to secure its borders.

A border fence is one project I could get behind outsourcing to India.

Which Senator was it that used India as an example of how countries could live with a large minority population in peace...because they all just get along and respect each other. I hope someone will send him a copy of this article. In fact, I hope someone will send a copy of this article to ALL of our elected Senators and Representatives. Unfortunately, I can’t get the whole article to come up online...

Fence them out and then kill them off. It’s the only way.

Bangladesh used to be a moderate country, and always had moderates within its border who wanted peaceful co-existance with non-Islamic nations. After all, a non-Islamic country helped them secure their independence from the ruthless Pakistani regime. However, the moderates have now been suppressed and wild raging Islamist maniacs control the country.

A lot of Hindus(among non-Muslims in Bangladesh) have been killed off. Fundamentalist Islamist indoctrination is the official State policy.

Not all Muslims are bad and Islam isn’t inherently a “worse” religion than others(I think all religions have good and bad side... some gray side too) — just the people practicing Islam are pretty retarded and want to revert the society to dark ages.

Ask any moderate(i.e. non-fundamentalist) Muslim — they do exist — and he/she does not like the fundamentalist ones bit. They know why Muslim countries are backward and they will tell that not due to Israel/America/India/Russia, but due to uneducated people who follow the religious authorities blindly and generation of indoctrination that is supplanted on their minds. It is all about a sense of identity propagated from childhood through mind control.

By the way, if relatively poor country like India can fence its long border, why can’t America? The limited resource rationale never made sense to me. It could take billions due to higher cost, but hey America can always hire illegal laborers to build it. So, higher-cost also doesn’t make sense. They could simply cut spending on other things and put that on the border... or better yet just increase the tax. Democrats would be happy about higher taxes and Republicans would be happy about the fence.

It is the political will that is lacking... typical of politicians both Republicans and Democrats.

From the article:

“The Bangladesh government made a few complaints - the fence felt like an insult, as if their country was a plague that needed to be quarantined - but soon gave up.

India has become enamored with fences in recent years.

First it started closing off much of its border with Pakistan, trying to stop incursions by Muslim extremists. Then it turned to its other Muslim neighbor, Bangladesh, and has been building the fence intermittently ever since.”

I dont understand where the author got that idea that we, Indians, wanted to insult Bangladesh? Bangladesh, like any typical islamist country, is filled with ingrate bastards who have turn against us despite us securing them independence from another hell called Pakistan. Their border guards - Bangladesh Rifles - constantly fire at our border troops. As early as 3-4 months ago, they tried to abuduct one of our border guards! In view of all these conditions, (terrorism being bigger factors as well), India will do what it finds in its best interest! Why should Bangladesh feel bad if we are building fences on an International (completely demarcated) Border inside Indian territory!

“During the course of the war India allowed about 10 million refugees to come to India from East Pakistan.”

Almost none of that 10 million went back to India. Bangladesh never took back any refugees and neither did anyone wanted to go back. My own family came over to India as refugee during the time.
