Alabama Legislature Passes Slavery Apology
WSFA ^ | 5/25/07 | AP

The Alabama Legislature passed a new resolution Friday apologizing for the state's role in slavery. The new resolution stitches together a House-passed resolution by state Representative Mary Moore with one prepared by state Senator Hank Sanders.

The new resolution traces the history of slavery and segregation and then offers an apology from the Legislature. The Senate approved the new resolution 20-to-8 and the House concurred on an unrecorded voice vote.

The resolution now goes to Governor Riley. The governor's spokesman says he will sign the resolution as soon as it reaches his desk.

Legislatures in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina approved slavery apologies earlier this year.

When’s Portugal going to apologize for starting the whole thing?

Portugal? The Arabs!

No, the Greeks!

No, wait, the Natufian Culture that invented agriculture!

No, wait, Cro-Magnon men!

I sense we're drifting here, in fixing blame.....

Uh, I don’t really see anything wrong with this. I mean, it’s not particularly meaningful, but it’s simply a good faith gesture.

Dem politics is old fashioned ward politics writ large. In return for that vote, the blacks get Thanksgiving turkey...and other things.

They not only destroyed black families, but poor white and others, too. The goal was to remove the “father” from the home and thus make the single mother totally dependent on Uncle Sugar for her survival and the survival of the children, thus assuring their complete allegience at the polls. The welfare reforms of the 90’s went a long ways in correcting those “errors” but not nearly far emough. Welfare should be trimmed back to where only the “neediest” of people can qualify, not just anybody who can walk in to the office and say they want it. The other problems, such as illegal immigration, are all related to this.......................

I want an apology from the Indian nations for getting the white man hooked on tobacco. And now that they have casinos, I’m sure they could afford to make that apology *mean something*.

I agree.

The Welfare system was a vote buying scheme from its inception.

If the Mexican invasion is to fill jobs Americans won’t do, then only the disabled and elderly should have any welfare at all.

Ask a liberal, next time you can, “How is it that every Mexican that comes across the Rio Grande with nothing but the clothes on their backs, can find a job and support his family back in Mexico, but people born and raised here, living on welfare into the fourth generation, cannot?............

"The problem with that approach is the dems can rightly claim that many of the old Dixiecrats jumped to the Republicans, which they did."

Name them. I have heard this claim before, and it is quite dubious. From a national perspective, I don't think there's been more than a handful of actual elected officials. The only real one was Strom Thurmond, but as soon as he made the switch, he heartily embraced Civil Rights (contrast that with Robert Byrd, the Klansman), and was more forward on the issue than most other Southern Democrats (IIRC, he was the first Southern Senator to hire Black staffers in the 20th century). Indeed, most of your Dixiecrats served as Democrats and died as Democrats.

Tank Johnson, M. Vick, R. Kelly, Bobby Brown, Snoop Dwag’, fifta’ cent, the list can go on and on.

When all these minorities are in power the GRAVY Train/ Cash Cow will be over.

Should a husband apologize to his wife for his next door neighbor beating his wife?

No, no, no!

He should apologize to his wife for their home's previous owner beating his wife.

Silly. :-)
