A Minnesota soldier deployed in Iraq has accused his wife of selling the couple's Maplewood home without his consent, withdrawing about $25,000 from his IRAs by forging his signature, and moving to Fargo, North Dakota.

Dana Marie Kieser, 37, the wife of John Paul Kieser, has been charged in Ramsey County District Court with two counts of felony check forgery. She is not in custody and has been ordered to appear in court in St. Paul June 4.

John Kieser, deployed with the U.S. Army in Iraq, contacted Maplewood Police last Dec. 27 and alleged that his wife falsely claimed that he had been disabled in order to use her power of attorney to sell their home,

During the Vietnam war this kind of stuff was pretty common.

Unfortunately, not all the spouses left behind have been hanging up the yellow ribbons and keeping the home fires burning....if this gets your Irish up, you’ll love this little nugget. Seems the local talent up here in Watertown, NY (and surrounding communities) BTW, W’town is the home of the 10th Mountain Division...anyway, these little tarts will marry soldiers getting ready to deploy (they seem to prefer infantry types), and then divorce them when they get back...why do you ask? Because they didn’t die. That’s right, these little b&%*@%s are marrying these guys, just so they become the beneficiary of the soldiers SGLI, that BTW is why the specifically target infantry, higher mortality rate. And when these guys come back alive, it disappoints the little whore.

I can understand the concern here and I do not like it, but be realistic. He was a fool for leaving everything in her name while he was gone. If it were me I would have put it into a trust or written a POA document that required two individuals one being a neutral party or better yet appoint two neutrals. That would end this kind of stuff. She is a dirt bag but even dirt bags can be controlled

A friend of mine during the first Gulf War came home to find his wife and 2 sons living in his house with her new boyfriend. She had used all of his pay to "party" while he was away at war. She even bragged to friends that if my friend "got killed" she would get big bucks from his SGLI.

What a sweet heart this woman was.

Well the article seems to say that he didn't leave assets in her name. It seems to say she had to forge his signature to get access to IRA funds, and falsely claim he was disabled in order to activate a power of attorney and sell their home.

Yeah, its very well known that around military bases many girls will marry a younger soldier right before he goes off, usually a stripper or some such.

On a related note. Ever wonder why their are so many Koreans around military bases?

“I have one bad story in particular about a guy in Nam.. But for men only.”

May as well tell it, the posters on this thread already know most of the stories, and the non vets can learn about the uglier side of life for the enlisted man.

I think it’s like that on both sides of the fence when you’re in a military town.

In Panama City FL every girlie on earth (practically) is gunning for an airman, etc.

The soldiers have some idea what they’re getting into, I suspect.

Some of the GIs are a piece of work too – my wife’s dad, for instance.

He met his wife while stationed in Germany and married her. Knocked her up then got stationed in Watertown where he knocked her up a second time and shortly decided the whole marriage/family thing wasn’t as attractive as originally envisioned and bailed out.

Those types of stories aren’t uncommon either way.

Anyway, my wife has some pictures of Life in Watertown.

It’s really a pretty place – like in late July when the leaves are turning colors… just kidding, but not by much.

She has a picture of their house and there’s no visible house. It’s just a big pile of snow. Snow from the top of the roof to the ground.

Seriously nothing but a trench in the snow that turns into a tunnel as it gets to the porch.

I guess that’s one reason you can get houses (comparatively) cheap there – nobody wants to live in ice most of the year.

She said it was a nice place to grow up as a kid but as an old woman she doesn’t want to be inconvenienced by any more snow… I’ll take her word for it and stay away.

Quite a few of the civvie contractors in Iraq had this same kind of thing happen to them. One guy’s wife informed him she was getting a divorce less than a month after he arrived (three kids, very nice new house).

I heard through the grapevine of several checking accounts being raided, and vaguely recall one instance of the house being sold without his knowledge. Some guys were so wiped out that they had to extend their time in Iraq to avoid complete bankruptcy.

I wouldn’t say it was “common”, but it did happen in all too many cases.
