Saudis 'hold 170 terror suspects'
BBC News ^ | 4-27-2007 | BBC News

More than 170 terror suspects have been arrested in Saudi Arabia, officials there have said.

Those detained are said to be both Saudi and foreign nationals, Interior Ministry spokesman Gen Mansur al-Turki told local media.

Large amounts of weapons and $5.33m (£2.67m) in cash were also seized.

Some of the suspects were training as pilots and planning attacks on oil installations and military bases, according to the interior ministry.

"Some have begun training on the use of weapons, and some were sent to other countries to study aviation in preparation to use them to carry out terrorist operations inside the kingdom," a ministry statement read out on state TV channel al-Ekhbariya said.

The station broadcast footage of various types of weapons which were said to have been buried in the desert.

Saudi Arabia has been battling al-Qaeda-linked militants since a 2003 wave of suicide attacks on foreigners.

I’m not satisfied until the Saudis decapitate or execute all of them. The Saudis are notorious for slaughtering petty criminals, thiefs, adulteres etc.

They should make something meaningful and behead all Al-Qaeda terrorists in Saudi prisons.

I can’t believe they took them alive. So much simpler to kill them all so they don’t say anything embarrassing later.

On the surface, same here.

That said, its worth considering nothing is at it appears to the outside world in The Kingdom.

Its as likely the 150 citizens picked up were actually about to attempt a coup as it is the stated reason is real, for just one example that comes to mind.

The Saudi’s are a mistery to me.

I can’t figure them out - are they with us - just with themselves - are they good at this - are they appeasers... ??

I would love to hear that the U.S. helped them in some way.

If this is what they have made public, you have to wonder how bad it really is.

Good point - you’re right - they do hold a lot of information close to the vest.

From Reuters:

Some had begun training on the use of weapons, and some were sent to other countries to study aviation in preparation to use them to carry out terrorist operations inside the kingdom,” the statement said.

“One of their main targets was to carry out suicide attacks against public figures and oil installations and to target military bases inside and outside (the country),” it added.

I hope the Saudis bury them with pig parts. If they don’t, I would if they’d pay my travel costs.

‘I would love to hear that the U.S. helped them in some way.”

If we did, no way that will be made public. The House of Saud has been teetering for the past decade, and they won’t allow the loss of face, for want of a better term.

When it falls - and make no mistake it will - what arises could be even more of a problem than Iran.

Yipes....

I heard an excerpt from Tenet’s 60 minutes interview - he does
not exactly paint a nice picture of our future vs. terror.

My view - we’re gonna have get clobbered again before we wake up.

Sad - but that’s what I feel these days.

They are with themselves. The Saudis would not hesitate to betray us if they thought it would keep the descendants of Saud in power. We ‘re stuck with them, because if they were overthrown, anything that replaced them would be worse. It is a fine line we are walking with them, but we really don’t have a choice.

I agree.

I wish this nation would tackle ENERGY with Manhattan Project like zeal.

We’re so financially tied to these loons and their damn oil.
