GEICO needs to apologize to all Neanderthal descendants for their ads insulting cavemen.

Until further DNA work is done, we can't tell for sure who the Neanderthal descendants are...but if they post an apology at DU they'll probably reach a bunch of them.

It's good that paleoanthropology hasn't become popularly political yet. From what I read the truth of the past matters much today regarding rights and claims of rights. And as always the truth favors the good guys.

Interesting article.

They saw each other as social equals.

Okay.

Love that science reporting. Nothing but the facts.

which shows that early modern humans did exhibit evidence of Neandertal traits.

Which led to the new name "democrat".

the fate of the Neandertals was to be absorbed into modern human groups.

Finally! An explanation as to why my neighbor acts like he does!

Wonder what the used for a$$ wipe? Leaves?? Those in the enviromental movement of the times used only one leaf. Ironically this was a succesful movement, co2 was so low that they ended up with the ice age. :-)

Stephen Oppenheimer states definiteely that we did not mix with Neanderthals.

There has been some fragmentary DNA extracted from Neanderthal skeletons and he says there is no connection.

Hey, all I know is what I read.

"Stephen Oppenheimer states definiteely that we did not mix with Neanderthals."

Yup. I've read all his excellent books.

If you've noticed, a lot of his conclusions are based on the data of others (who he is very good at citing)
