DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

I have NEVER seen that word on FR, or any of the other top dirtiest words.

You don't FReep very much do you?

I routinely hit abuse at unedited F-words and S-words.

The mods often ignore my report and let the offensive post stay.

It was a very sad day indeed when Pookie18 got a one day zot for having the word "ass" in a cartoon, yet other FReepers can post pictures of leftist protestors with "F*** Bush" signs.

Morning, Can you believe it? The Rudy folks all pretending to be so put upon? It really is fodder for a good belly laugh. They were discussing the other day, about which thread to make their declaration. If you notice no one answered when I brought this up to them. The silence says it all. They don’t even like facts about their own behavior questioned.

If people believe it they haven’t taken a look at where they go to regroup. There little place with the magic link connection to espouse their hatred for Conservatives and Christians.

Don’t you think it is kind of tacky for someone to talk about the nice checks they have written? How totally tacky.
Is this supposed to be a threat to those who do not wish Rudy to be our candidate? Shut up or we will cut off our bucks.

Interesting classless comments you have about Rudy; however, I’ve noticed that you never bring up Hillary’s or Bill’s past with regard to anything remotely resembling conservatism...because there isn’t one....Bill is the sex addict (you don’t seem to mind) and Hillary is a marxist (you don’t seem to mind)......and you’re concerned about the one and only person who can defeat Hillary????

Heck, if we are going to have freely addable keywords, JR should make it so you see who added one just by mousing over it!

WTF are you talking about? Don't bother me with your mindless drivel until you have a clue and graduate from highschool, at least.

Just because I don't incessantly discuss people I despise doesn't mean I condone them. Besides, you clearly have not read all my posts, or you wouldn't make this absolutely idiotic statement.

Btw, you can post to me all you want, but I refuse to read your stupid crap anymore.

Rudy will get slaughtered by Hillary, btw. Your political savvy is, well, there isn't any to discuss.

Keywords could always be added freely here at FR. Ever notice the “add keyword” button?

AND, when a Moderator ZZZots a poster, all its keywords automagically disappear. Should be, don’t know if is.

I believe the DU folks are getting smarter in order to antagonize, and disenfranchise FR people, and they are among us. They simply need to pose as extreme right wingers and focus on our differences rather than what principles draw us together. As we become issue specific rather than principle based we are drawn apart - just like liberals.

And yes we need to discuss issues, but they need not draw us apart.... and those that attempt to elevate the argument to a name calling frenzy should be banned.

Yes I do Freep and often. It’s you that can’t see the difference between the type of people who post here and those on the DU. Yes from time to time I am embarrassed by comments posted here, but it in no ways compares with the vulgar post on the DU that is seem to be the norm. Do you think for a minute someone can use the F-word in the title of a post here without it being yanked? And I am not talking about photos of anti-war signs.

I firmly believe the the majority (80% or more) of people that post on FR are upstanding people that you would be proud to call friends and Great Americans. No we don’t always agree on every issue, but I can say that about my own family.

On the DU however If anyone of them were a neighbor I would be praying they move.

Actually, I think posting the pictures of him in drag is quite relevant.

That all depends.

If there's a recognition that he did those as a joke, or as part of a fundraiser, then fine. There's nothing to worry about.

It's the incessant labeling of him as "gay" or a "transvestite" that shows the pure ignorance of the poster.

Even Rudy says there's plenty to attack him on. But a HUGH contingent of morons thinks there's a need to make crap up.

If we're to be the party of integrity then we should exhibit some and present the facts, not suppressed fantasies (which is what I suspect the posters of those pictures are hiding).

Kinda nice to see this behavior outed. I will go bareknuckle with the best of em in the political world, and don’t mind a busted lip on me OR my opponent. That kind of stupid, childish malevolence has no place ANYWHERE imo. I hope the mods nuke whoever pull that junk, and that comes from someone who is fanatically in favor of ANYONE being able to have their say.

Nice way to misquote and misrepresent. THAT Is the DU tactic.

You need to work on your reading comprehension skills newb. I addressed Zarf's point specifically and there was nothing in his commentary on the OP related to call anyone a DU troll.

WOW! That’s disgusting! The Rudy posts were the same way for a while - they were posting all sorts of horrible things about Rudy - hoping he got his cancer back and hoping NYC burns. Let the mods know about it. They will take care of it! So sorry Mitt Threads are experiencing the same thing that the Rudy threads did.

Hasn't everyone in the country seen those pictures by now?

And if they have? You think that is out there winning votes? If you show it enough it will be OK? Envision trying to engage in hardball negotiations with a foreign (Muslim, even) head of state who is smirking the whole time, thinking of those pics. Nope, that is Rudy's Macacca moment. I just wish people would see it as such--for what it is.

Of what value is calling Judith Guiliani a whore?

I never said it was of any value, nor did I do so. I am sure she has been called worse, and unless the shoe fits, doing so is bad form. There either is or isn't plenty of dirt to toss about without gratuitous crap.

How is calling Rudy supporters "Rutards" or Romney supporters "Mittbots" helping advance the conservative cause?

Ever hear of Bushbots? Buchannanites? etc.,etc., handle it.

Allus'n hicks outchere in flyover country put up with worse for not being sufficiently urbane, trendy and avant garde.

I have avoided many Rudy cheerleading threads where pro-rudy attack dogs are out in force to shout down anyone who disagrees that the person the New York City Media labelled "America's" mayor should be the next potus. When specific questions are answered in regards policies and actions taken by Rudy in the past which are patently unacceptable outside of the Boroughs, either the subject is changed, the personal attacks are on, etc.

The favorite seems to be (in the beginning of the primary season) the allegation that if you do not support Rudy, you are somehow electing Hillary.

If I call Rudy a gun-grabber (a popular euphamism for someone who supports legislation which would ban half of the firearms in my gun cabinet, and make it a criminal offense to have a metal box capable of feeding more than 10 cartridges, in succession, into my rifle) this is somehow construed to be an attack on him or his supporters. It is really quite a succinct statement of his position on firearms and the right to keep and bear them. I have had a concealed carry permit or the equivalent for 25 years. I am not, nor have I ever been in the military or a L.E.O., just a concerned citizen willing to take on the responsibility of owning and carrying a firearm.

Rudy would do away with that.

Rudy supports abortion. Yet, at no time have I referred to him as a "baby killer".

On other issues, including not securing the border, not cooperating with Federal authorities to remove illegal aliens, and special "rights" for people who choose a different mode of sexual behaviour from that which traditionally has the potential to produce offspring, Rudy is far, far too Liberal for my tastes, and as such, I will not, and morally cannot support him.

To say so, however makes me a "Rudy hater", or somehow one of "those who put the Democrats in power (spit!), or another vote for Hillary!.

Is that the sort of "over the top" type of personal attack you are referring to? For discussing (or trying to, anyway) the issues.

Frankly, I do not care about Rudy any more than any other person walking down the street. I'd help them up if they fell, call them an ambulance if they needed one, and defend them if they were being criminally attacked. I just will not vote for him. I won't vote for Hillary either, and for the same reasons. Their positions on the issues are far too far to the left of my own.

So, amid the snyde remarks toward Duncan Hunter supporters and cheerleading, pep-rally-style for RUDY!, I have tried to point out that running a candidate for potus who has the same domestic platform as his most likely opponent is not a winner, for the Party, nor for America.

That leaves the war. Rudy's whole sumtotal Experience is having been the mayor of a target. He has no military experience, no foreign policy experience to speak of, he just had his people pick up the pieces.

Frankly, I think it might take just a tad more than that to defeat the minions of jihadic Islamism worldwide. So, even that one seminal issue is insufficient to get me to vote my domestic rights away, the lives of future Americans, and elect someone who would elevate people who engage in what I see as reprehensible personal activities to a protected and special status.

After all, doing so would do nothing to advance the conservative cause.

When the discussion was civil, for that brief time, those statements could be made without enduring the wolf pack of Rudy supporters vitriolic condemantion, not on the issues, not on substance, but for being just another hick going to get Hillary elected.

I submit that if Hillary gets elected, it will be primarily because there was no clear choice in direction to be made between candidates.

"I firmly believe the the majority......"

I wish I had your outlook on things. But I believe that if JR abandoned his "no cussing" rule here at Free Republic, the true nature of many - if not most - FReepers would soon turn this site into a vulgar right wing version of DU.

Since when is “newb” an insult?

I was referring to a different post of zarf. You owe me an apology.
